She lost her father last May...and this first Veteran's Day without him is especially difficult. She has so much love, respect, appreciation and admiration of her beloved Dad and I was honored and proud to take these photos of her wearing his army jacket. I know he is proud of his daughter for her incredible strength throughout this time of loss.
She said it best in her post, and I was so moved when I read it I had to share:
"This was my dad’s army uniform, I’m honored to even wear it and to have his folded flag hanging up in our office, as well as having all 4 of mine and Matt’s grandpa’s flags too. Such an honor to come from such a long line of brave men.
My dad was a military policeman before rising to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He had such amazing and fascinating stories of his time in the Army, I promise to pass those stories on to each generation of our family so they will know his bravery, his strength, his dedication and his commitment. It definitely won’t be the same as when he told them. He could tell a story 100 times and you’d be drawn in as if it was the first time you heard it!
In high school all the senior boys, my dad included, were gathered in the auditorium and told they would be drafted into the Vietnam war. I can’t imagine the feeling the young men/boys must have felt. My dad’s very best friend, Lynn Ihrig, died while fighting on the ground in Vietnam with a gunshot to the neck at just 20 years old. My dad still visited his grave every single Memorial Day up until he died. I plan on continuing that tradition too even though I never met him, my dad made sure I knew who he was.
This is the first Veteran’s day I can’t tell my daddy thank you for his service but I am so grateful for the 33 years I had with him and the stories he shared. So on this Veteran’s day I’m honoring not just my dad but all who have served this GREAT country, those whose names were called and left everything behind , those who signed up putting their dreams on hold, who left behind safety, security, and family to defend the freedoms we hold dearly. They have faithfully defended our right to freedom to speak what we believe and to worship our God. We honor those defenders, past, present and future! Thank you for your service 🇺🇸"
