Oh my Karissa Joy. As your second birthday approached, I kept finding myself wondering what we did with you that caused you to be so sweet, so affectionate and loving and all that you are. And then I heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “nothing”.

It’s all who God made you to be. You are such a gift! Some seasons are harder like this last month has been for you (and by extension, us), but your Daddy and I are so proud of you as you transform in front of us into such a lovely little girl. We keep commenting to each other how every hint of baby in you is suddenly gone. You’ve always had such a zest for life and taken it by the reigns, and I know you’ll do the same in this next month as you become a big sister. So Happy late Birthday, and happy last month as the baby of this family. Goodness knows you’re even more ready than we are 💕

If you’ve ever wondered why I book a whole hour for families, this session with this sweet, spunky family is exactly why.

Destiny doesn’t do strangers, Jackson gets easily overwhelmed, and Aaron, let’s just say he really loves his mom and that’s why he’s there 🙃. You don’t get everyone’s best smiles from 30-40 minutes of racing from here to there, assembly line-style structure, and packing every minute.

There’s a place for that; believe me, on wedding days we do that a lot so there’s time left to party! But kids don’t usually function that way, and this session was proof.

We almost called it quits because the kids were DONE, even after multiple pivots and playground and candy breaks. But instead we went to the beach, and wow, I’m so glad we did. These are my favorite moments from this session, and I think they’re mom’s too.

There’s something about moments like these that are extra precious, watching them just be themselves together. That’s what you get when you spend the hour. The real smiles, and the real moments too. 🤍

I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner.

If you’ve had a session with me, you know I always keep Smarties on me—a little sugar goes a long way when you’re asking a three year old to cooperate 😅. But this year I added something new: a prize box at the end of every session with little ones.

I love it because it does two things for us when you come to me for a session. When a kiddo is feeling done but we still have more to do, I’ve found taking a candy break to talk about the prize box and how we only have a few more pictures to take before we can pick something is a complete mood changer. But I love even more what it does over time.

I want your kids to have good associations with family photos, not just this year, but every year. Because the families I love working with most are the ones who come back—and I want your littles to actually look forward to that, not dread it. If picking out a prize at the end of a session is what makes them actually excited when you tell them you’re taking pictures again with Miss Kali, then it’s worth its weight in gold.

Family photos are meant to capture your fondest memories of a season, so your session shouldn’t feel like a nightmare. I’m so excited to find more ways to make this experience a joy for your whole family. 💕

The entire time I was editing Amanda and Joey’s maternity session, I just kept thinking, “this little boy is so lucky. His parents love each other so much.” They say that’s the best gift you can give your children, and watching these two, I believe it. I’m so excited to watch them all become a family 🩵.

A few of my favorite moments from a backyard session with Ray, Hannah, and their boys.

Silly, sweet, and always so well behaved, it was such a joy to get to work with these spunky boys THREE times this year, but this session was by far my favorite. Capturing them at their new family home made these moments even more meaningful, and they speak so well to who this sweet family is in their every-day 💕.

(And for the record, Dad got the best smiles out of little brother 😁)

One minute he’s your baby, and the next he’s a two-sport athlete, buried in AP classes, and mapping out which pharmacy schools are best…

Mammas of seniors, how are you doing? Because the thought of transitioning from one to two kids and a second birthday are currently enough to make me a puddle—I can only imagine what getting ready to watch your baby walk across that stage feels like.

We all know the whole point is to let them fly one day, but man that doesn’t make it any easier to embrace it when things change! But I can only imagine the pride you feel watching them make their lives their own and stepping into everything you prepared them for. So soak it up Senior Mamma. These pictures are for him, but they’re just as much for you 🩵.

Hard to believe we’re only about 10 weeks away from meeting this little girl!

I’ve been having so much fun working with amazing brides, families, and seniors this year that summer has flown, and all of a sudden we’re in the final stretch! So I’m taking a quick break from sharing galleries to let you know that if you were hoping to still book a session this year, now through the end of October is the time!

November is normally the perfect time of year for last minute minis or Christmas card sessions, so I’ll be sad to miss it, but I’m capping myself a bit early this year so that I can make sure everyone gets their galleries (and my house gets cleaned 🙃) before baby sister comes toward the end of the month. I still have plenty of dates open, but the fall tends to book fast, so if you were planning on a session still this year message me today and we’ll get a date reserved for you!

A moment for Elijah & Maggie’s Bridal party, who were a huge part of the success of their day.

From carrying umbrellas and dress trains and blow drying wet stains and keeping track of backup plans to keeping the whole mood of the day fun and exciting, they were proof it matters who you surround yourself with on your wedding day! Thanks to them and the amazing staff at the Historic Stonebrook, this gorgeous rainy wedding day felt upbeat and even fluid from beginning to end.

I learn so much about couples just from meeting their people, and Maggie and Elijah have some of the best out there counting them as best friends. 🤍

Maddie’s Senior Session 🩵

I’ve had the privilege of knowing this sweet girl for a few years now, and she’s every bit of the sweet and sassy that she comes across. Responsible, hardworking, nurturing, fun, and always busy with something, I’m so excited to watch her enjoy her senior year and rock the transition to adulthood after the same way she did with these photos. 💕

A few glimpses at one of the sweetest families I know 💕.

I’m feeling so beyond grateful to be so busy this summer doing something I love for families & couples I love, but I’ve been having a hard time getting around to sharing some of the sweet moments I’ve gotten to be a part of! For now once a week might be the new groove, but there are lots of sessions on the docket for delivery and for sharing that I’m so excited about 😊. Now, back to editing 😅
