Orlando Wetlands Park is a man made, 1,650-acre park created to naturally filter reclaimed water from the City of Orlando. It’s now the home to many bird and reptile species!

After over a year of kayaking at our favorite spot Silver Springs State Park we were finally able to see the wild monkeys! 🐵

Silver Springs is known for their rhesus macaques, a species of monkeys that was introduced to the area in 1930 by a tour boat operator. Colonel Tooey brought the monkeys to a small island in the area to boost tourism and create a “Tarzan-like” atmosphere. Little did he know that the monkeys could swim so they quickly spread to the surrounding forests. They have lived within the Silver Springs area ever since.

Funny story for the day, I got incredibly lost in the woods following this American Kestrel!

When I spotted the leopard-like plumage I knew I hadn’t captured this species before, so, naturally I left the trail I was on and walked right into the Florida forest to get a better view. Once I had a nice view, the little guy flew away so I followed him. I eventually got the shots after several scrapes and bruises from pushing my way through rough bushes.

Once I got the shots, I looked around me and realized I’d traveled at least a half mile into the woods and had no idea where the trail was. Thankfully we live in 2024 and we have GPS at our disposal, otherwise I’m not sure how I would have found my way back. I evaded a very angry looking snake and who knows how many critters along the way 🕷️🐍

Long story short I worked hard for these beautiful captures and I have the war scars to prove it!

People around the world were gazing at the Super Harvest Moon on Tuesday. And half of Earth also got to see the full moon in a partial eclipse. There won’t be another eclipse of a supermoon until October 8, 2033. 🌕

American Bald Eagle 🇺🇸

Although the bald eagle is the most known bird in the USA, there’s a lot of fun facts about these giant beauties that often go unnoticed!

- They have two centers of focus in their eyes that allow them to see forward and sideways at the same time.
- Their talon grip is 10x as strong as a humans.
- They make the largest nests of any bird in the USA

Great Egret are such regal birds 🦢

They’re best known for their tall slender figure, stunning white plumage, and long legs.

They’re rather solitary birds, unless it’s mating season at which point they will congregate with other birds. Their bills are also usually yellow but a fun fact about them is they turn to a vibrant orange during mating season.

This male cardinal was certainly showing off his fiery beauty❤️

Cardinals are well known for their striking colors, but they're also one of the most cherished songbirds. They represent many things such as love, devotion, courtship and monogamy.

Since moving to Florida, photographing the Purple Gallinule has been a goal of mine. I was lucky enough to spot one when visiting the Everglades earlier this year 📸

My favorite feature of these birds is their purple-blue plumage that shines green / turquoise when they’re in the sun. Adults also have a pale blue shield on their forehead as you can see in these photos. They are deemed one of the most colorful birds found here in the states 🇺🇸
