AVA MediterrAegean Coconut Grove in Miami, Florida.

Nestled in the coastal neighborhood of Coconut Grove on the outskirts of Miami, AVA MediterrAegean is a restaurant that was absolute eye candy for me to photograph. I was so drawn to all the ornate details, archways, outdoor patio, vibrant artwork, midcentury modern furniture and elegant light fixtures that I had to work with. Fortunately, we were shooting on a day the restaurant was closed, which gave me the freedom to take my time and be intentional with every shot.

AdventHealth Altamonte Springs Lobby Renovation in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

The RS&H project team and I arrived on the morning of this photo shoot before the break of dawn. The goal was to photograph the lobby around sunrise to show off how this space welcomes light at the beginning of the day through the large glass windows. However, Florida weather in January comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. There’s not a lot of rain like we have in the summertime, but there's a high risk of humidity in the morning, which leads to thick fog. This ended up being the case for us.

While we waited for the fog to lift, there was furniture to be moved into place for the shots. It was definitely useful to have my furniture sliders on hand! I keep them in my car, because you never know when you’re going to need them on a photo shoot.

By the time everything had been glided into position, the sun was up and the fog had begun to dissipate. Finally, I was able to see this large lobby with sunlight pouring in just as intended. The white interior paired with subtle pops of colorful furniture creates a calm and welcoming environment for anyone entering the hospital. The custom ceiling feature suspended from the center of the space was a particular favorite of mine to photograph.

Booker High School Performing Arts Center Renovation in Sarasota, Florida.

While photographing the Booker High School Performing Arts Center renovation, I was lucky to discover that the lighting technician happened to be on site that day. He graciously assisted me by manually cycling through the theater's lighting colors as I photographed. Honestly, these shots wouldn't exist without him. Sometimes it really does take a village.

The weather was a little overcast during the day, which gave me plenty of time to focus on photographing the interior without the need to rush. But then, I was gifted with one of the best sunsets I’ve ever experienced as a photographer. The colors were gorgeous, bouncing perfectly off the front facade of the building.

It's projects like this that remind me how grateful I am to do what I love every single day.

Personal photos taken on film in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

During our trip to Minneapolis for a photo shoot this past May, I ventured around the city to take some photos for myself with my film camera. Two gems I was able to capture were the 20 Washington Avenue Building (formerly the Northwestern National Life Building) and the Weisman Art Museum.

The 20 Washington Avenue Building was designed by Minoru Yamasaki, who was also the architect for the World Trade Center, and stands at an overwhelming scale when stepping foot onto the property. The building’s vertically stretched columns rising into Gothic arches are a magnificent feature and easily one of the best characteristics to photograph from various angles.

The Weisman Art Museum located on the University of Minneapolis campus was designed by the renowned architect Frank Gehry. After viewing images of this building online, I was excited to be able to capture it myself. However, when I arrived, I found that the exterior was in the middle of being refurbished. It turned into an unexpected exercise in problem-solving by wandering the site on the hunt for compositions that kept the construction out of frame. It's the same set of skills we architectural photographers rely on when we show up to a project and find obstacles we didn't plan for. Sometimes those constraints allow you to find shots you might have otherwise missed.

Orange County Fire Rescue Training Center in Orlando, Florida.

While driving down Curry Ford Road in Orlando, I noticed a new structure taking shape and was immediately struck by the unique ways the concrete was being formed and wondered what it was going to be when the construction was complete. I pulled over to take a photo of the construction site and the sign out front, then went home to do some research. That search led me to KMF Architects, a firm I had been wanting to work with for quite some time. I reached out to them, and fast forward… I was commissioned to photograph what turned out to be the Orange County Fire Training Center. A dream turned into reality! Those in-progress structures I saw from the side of the road all made sense now. The clever team designed the structures to look like they were partially collapsed.

I spent an entire day from sunrise to sunset capturing the full campus. I was so drawn to the concrete materiality and the angled walls and windows throughout the main building. A highlight for me was being able to watch and capture the firefighter recruits training with fire hoses that morning, a reminder of the real purpose behind the design.

This project was recently honored with an AIA Florida Citation Award of Excellence for New Work, and it was also featured in AIA Florida's Summer 2026 Florida/Caribbean Architect magazine. It's a well-deserved recognition for a team that designed something both beautiful and purposeful. Congratulations to everyone at KMF Architects!

Cont’d: Pinnacle Tower Phases 1 & 2 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Continuing from my previous Pinnacle Tower post, I also wanted to share these interiors that were taken during two separate phases of completion.

I have been photographing projects at Nashville Yards over the past few years and I was surprised at how much things had progressed when I was there last week. This massive development in the heart of downtown has grown at a pace that's hard to fully comprehend unless you have been actively documenting the ongoing progress. I'm grateful and proud to have played a small part in capturing its history and ongoing progress for Gresham Smith. What struck me most during this visit was realizing that certain angles I've captured in the past are no longer possible, because they are now blocked by new buildings that have risen since then.

I'm excited to return to Nashville next month to photograph Phase 3 of this project and continue to build on this photographic record of one of the city's most significant developments.

Pinnacle Tower Phase 1 in Nashville, Tennessee.

During the first phase of this project in January 2025, we had just one day of clear weather to photograph the new Pinnacle Tower in downtown Nashville before the entire city was blanketed in snow. What a difference 24 hours can make! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to go back out after the storm and capture the freshly coated tower and its surroundings. When else would a chance like that come along?

One of the drone images I captured looking straight down is an exact recreation of a photo I took of an adjacent project during a previous springtime shoot.

As we currently sit in the heat of the summer, it’s a great feeling to look at these winter images. Photographing a project in the snow had always been a dream of mine and the perfect timing of this one gave me that chance.

Personal photos taken on film in Cleveland, Ohio.

I made some time while in Cleveland, Ohio for a photo shoot and took the opportunity to visit a couple of spots I had been wanting to experience in person. The first was The Arcade, a Victorian-era structure built in 1890 and designed by the architect, John Eisenmann. Upon entering this building, I was immediately transported back in time to the late 19th century with the intricate railings, glass skylight, tile floors and wood accents throughout. It was an instant jaw-dropping moment.

The next spot was the Peter B. Lewis Building at Case Western Reserve University, a quick detour I’m glad I chose to make. Seeing one of Frank Gehry’s buildings in real life made it impossible to not get my camera out. I could have stared at the reflective metal set perfectly against the red brick for quite some time.

Confidential Project in Orlando, Florida.

Amanda and I had the opportunity to photograph this new office space near Downtown Orlando together. Collaborating with her on these photo shoots makes what we do extra special. Not only is she my assistant, but also someone to give me real-time advice and direction on how to approach photographing each shot to make the final result better when she edits the images.

Capturing the exterior shots for this building was tricky, since the interior lights were on motion sensors. While I photographed the exterior at sunset, Amanda had to walk the perimeter of all three floors continuously to keep the interior lights triggered and the building illuminated. The exterior photo of the recessed facade is a great example of where her editing skills really came into play. Some of the exterior lights along the windows didn't end up turning on for our sunset shots, but you'd never know it.

We were both grateful to have the project teams from HuntonBrady and CI Group helping us compose each interior shot. I was especially drawn to the sleek, modern design, with its elevated textures and furniture throughout.

Bell Works adaptive reuse in Holmdel, New Jersey.

Ever since we watched Severance, I've dreamed of visiting where it was filmed. Bell Works (formerly Bell Labs Holmdel Office Complex) is the real-life Lumon Industries from the show!

Bell Works is a revived hub that now houses shopping, entertainment, eatery and workspaces. While researching this project, I discovered that one of my favorite architects, Eero Saarinen, designed the original complex, a detail that made this visit even more meaningful!

I was hired for a photo shoot nearby, so I took the opportunity and some extra time to photograph this structure for myself. About a month beforehand, I had reached out to Bell Works and was granted permission to have access to the premises. It was unreal to have the chance to explore the building and take photos of its beautiful modernist design at my leisure. I arrived for sunrise shots and slowly watched this place come alive while venturing throughout the spaces. Being mixed use, it’s like a small metropolis living and breathing inside of this magnificent architectural landmark. I happened to be visiting on the weekday they hold their weekly farmers and makers market, which contributed to the increased activity.

This building conceived for a single company’s mission has transitioned to a new calling. Architecture can outlive its original purpose and I think Eero Saarinen would be proud.
