Haan Coffee in Orlando, Florida.

Located in the heart of the Mills 50 district, Haan Coffee is more than just a coffee shop. It's an art gallery, a library, a place to relax while getting a little work done and just an overall great hangout spot. The design masterminds at gdpdesignbuild have done it again, delivering another jaw-droppingly beautiful project.

What I loved photographing most were the details: the subtle light wood accents, the cove lighting, the artwork throughout the space. Even the individually hanging wooden dowels toward the back of the shop give zen garden vibes. Together, these little touches help transport you out of the noise of everyday life.

Signature Aviation PBI North at Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida.

After getting home from three back-to-back photo shoots for Signature Aviation last week, I thought it was a great opportunity to share one of my favorite locations I ever shot for them. Falling Pear and I were hired to be at PBI North, their newest flagship FBO (Fixed Based Operator), right before the grand opening to quickly capture content for Signature’s marketing. I fell in love immediately when we stepped foot on this property with the modern and sleek design to fit the elevated clientele. From the large, expansive 2-story lobby with a moss wall to the stunning sculpture piece hanging above, this particular FBO location is a standout. As a cherry on top, the morning light spilled throughout the interior lobby space and illuminated the wood tones and furniture. Looking at these edited photos, you would never know that there was still active construction taking place on-site.

TN Oncology - Elliston Place Plaza in Nashville, Tennessee.

This project was photographed over two separate phases at different times of the year. The new cancer center truly feels like a hospitable experience from the moment you enter the front door. Since the lobby faces west, this area received a ton of amazing natural light during the first phase of photography in the summertime. The tall two-story windows allowed all that sunlight to spill into the space. Major props to the design team for dreaming up such a beautiful place of care and healing. I also love how you can see that the leaves were changing colors during the second phase we did in the fall.

A HUGE shout-out to Amanda for her meticulousness and dedication with the editing. The exterior photos had a vast amount of telephone wires around the entire building and she was able to remove all of those distractions to make them look so clean. It took her exactly a month to complete all of the photos for the client, and it shows.

A love letter from Austin, Texas: Part 2 of 2.

Our week spent in Austin last month for the Architecture and Design Photography Summit was filled with inspiration, lessons, collaboration, joy and motivation. Being surrounded by over 130 of our photography peers from throughout the world left me with so many emotions, like when you experience something so great that you don’t want it to end.

During our visit, I wanted to photograph several architectural wonders in Austin that spoke to me. Amanda and I drove around the city to several locations so I could get some shots with a Leica M6 film camera that I rented specifically for this trip. The best part about being a photographer is having the chance to capture the world in real time and those moments will forever be engrained in these pictures.

A love letter from Austin, Texas: Part 1 of 2.

Amanda and I attended the Architecture and Design Photography Summit last month in Austin, Texas. I already knew this city is filled with a variety of architectural buildings, but the one place that I ended up visiting 3 times that week was The Blanton Museum of Art, located at the The University of Texas at Austin campus.

The large flower-like canopies seated in the courtyard of the museum are simply stunning. There were so many different angles to capture, which is why I felt the need to visit so many times! The majority of the shots I captured of this area and art museum were taken with film. I’ve been trying to be more intentional about my process and movements within my own photography, so I’ve been drawn to photograph with film rather than digital for my personal work. What a joy it was to be beneath these massive canopies comfortably towering over me when exploring the area. The light and shadow play was shifting and ever-changing as the sun moved throughout the day.

Another lovely spot sitting adjacent to the canopies was the Ellsworth Kelly’s Austin Chapel. The colorful windows on the inside with the sun pouring in created such a calm and serene energy. The atmosphere inside along with the minimalistic shape of the building are what made me love it even more.

Chapin Theater at the Orange County Convention Center renovation in Orlando, Florida.

I remember going into the Chapin Theater the day of this photoshoot and being met with complete silence. It was bliss not having any distractions to interfere while I was photographing this beautifully renovated space. The new design honors the theater’s original character while also embracing the contemporary, offering an environment that’s versatile and visually striking.

While walking around and finding my angles, I imagined what types of shows would be viewed on this stage and the room being filled with an audience laughing, crying and clapping. As a band geek in high school, I recalled my time playing many concerts on stages like this one and it brought back memories as a alto sax player.

Architecture and entertainment are two loves in my life that I don't often get to hold at once, but photographing the Chapin Theater project gave me that, which I’m grateful for.

Confidential law firm office in Orlando, Florida.

This modern and sophisticated law firm office was brought to life by the MurphyMeyers design team and elevated by carefully selected furniture from Workscapes. Some spaces can make my job easier when they are so beautifully designed like this, with the subtle textures accompanied with warm wood tones. Every detail contributes to an environment that feels as polished and purposeful as the firm it represents.

Lorelei Wine Bar in Orlando, Florida.

The revival of the Mills 50 district in Orlando has expanded with several restaurants, bars and shops over the past decade. It’s refreshing to see a plethora of spots available for people to hang out and Lorelei is another beautiful addition to the neighborhood, thanks to gdpdesignbuild. The team has designed several of these new restaurants and I feel they are a huge reason why this area of Orlando has become so lively. With the upscale and sophisticated design strewn throughout Lorelei, it’s effortless to unwind and feel at ease here.

We had to photograph this project over two separate days due to a classic Florida afternoon thunderstorm that rolled through on our initial photo shoot day. With the bar area facing due west, I knew we had to photograph this particular project in the afternoon rather than a more weather-reliable morning to get that sunlight coming into the space. We had to be more nimble and flexible in our scheduling so we could be graced with a sunny afternoon rather than another rainy one. Overcoming all these obstacles makes me especially proud of these images and how we captured the space to really invoke a feeling of escape and tranquility.

Charter Research Office at Upshot Medical Center in Orlando, Florida.

Before & After: Appreciation post for Amanda. She skillfully removed large clusters of electrical wires in these images that were in front of this newly completed medical office building in the Mills 50 district of Orlando. The transformation of these images was dramatic and the clean façade now allows the building’s architectural details to truly shine. Scroll through to see the before and after magic, along with some of the interior photos we captured of the lobby and the Charter Research office spaces.

Charter Research is a clinical trial company dedicated to benefiting future generations. I was really drawn to the modern, clean design elements throughout with pops of color. The wavy ceiling baffles in the conference rooms were also visually striking to me and I enjoy how much they are emphasized in those shots. For the exterior photos, we had to arrive very early in the morning to ensure all the interior lights were on for sunrise shots. It was a great team effort to accomplish these shots and I couldn’t have done it without the help of the HuntonBrady team.

Element Eatery Food Hall in Cincinnati, Ohio.

It's always a treat to return to Cincinnati, where I grew up and met my future wife, Amanda. Photographing this project felt like a meaningful homage because it was in the place where it all began. We were fortunate to have excellent weather and lots of activity, including a lively crowd during a lawn concert throughout the two photo shoot days. This food hall is also an added bonus for the employees at Medpace (a clinical trial company) since it’s located right on their campus.
