Maybe a bit of both. Fat Bear Week has officially begun! Now it’s your turn to weigh in! is a celebration of the resilience, adaptability, and strength of Katmai’s brown bears as they bulk up and prepare for the harsh winter season. The bears compete in a tournament style competition where online visitors vote on which bear is they believe should be crowned Fat Bear Week champion.

Over the course of the week, we invite you to learn more about the bears, their lifestyle, and diet while also gaining a greater understanding of Katmai’s ecosystem.
