Whenever I have maternity sessions, I always take the opportunity to share a couple’s love. While yes maternity is primarily about the expecting mom and the changes to her body, I like to also include both parents and showcase how love naturally leads to this extension of the family.

Rainy wedding days aren’t the big disaster that couples think they are. They create an opportunity for things to slow down and get more intimacy during those quiet moments. They also offer amazing lighting once the rain stops!

Engagement sessions are about so much more than getting save the date images. Think of it like a date with your photographer, you are seeing how you guys interact during a session to see if they will be a good fit for your wedding when the time comes. It allows you the opportunity to see how they interact, how they handle unexpected situations, etc. this way once the wedding comes around, you both have a good sense of what to expect from each other as photographer and client!

The one thing I hear from every wedding couple I have spoken with is that they wish that the day had slowed down just a bit so they could savor the moments. That’s one big reason I am intentional about creating portrait time. This time allows the couple a moment to just breath and enjoy each other.

Over-posing couples is the one thing I actively try to avoid doing. My goal is to bring out the natural emotions from my couples. This means that my approach is to give natural prompts in order to authentically draw out the emotion that is already there. The results are always stunning!

As I reminisce about some highlight weddings, this one aboard the comes to mind. I remember how nervous the groom was, and how he needed support in order to calm down her nerves enough to help him finish getting dressed. It was a reminder to me that even the people with the toughest looking demeanors were also capable of great vulnerability. It also reminded me about how as a photographer, I may sometimes be called to be a listening hand and someone that eases another’s burden.

This wedding at was absolutely gorgeous. With a southern Belle charm, bride and groom had some very awesome outfits as well as having a sword exit for the ceremony, and even had a horse and carriage entrance/exit! Definitely a unique wedding experience for me.

Most people think that wedding photographers just show up and take photos all day. But that is the furthest thing from the truth. We are constantly scouting, looking for good lighting, noticing small expressions that other people might not notice, paying attention to mom and dad reactions, etc. we wear many hats on the wedding day, and that experience is what makes the difference between a good photographer and a great wedding photographer.
