I got to spend lots of time with two sets of sandhill cranes and their c**ts. Pictured here a c**t, only days old, waits patiently for its parent to find food. Seeing the head of the mom, right against the full size of the c**t really puts into perspective how tiny these little guys start out. In the first 30 days they can grow upto an inch a day, and reach adult height in just 3 months!

My bright feathery friend graced me with his presence again. This painted bunting was perched on my mango tree, holding tight as it bounced up and down in the wind. He even let me go outside, walk around and get a nice side shot. I hope he stays for the rest of the winter!

I finally saw a painted bunting for the first time, and it was at my very own feeder! This was actually the first bird I saw this year. He is so beautiful! Thank you .wintersprings for helping me set up my feeding station and helping me attract this beauty to our backyard for the winter.

These tiny falcons are fierce. The first image is of a male American Kestrel, and the second is a female or immature m/f Merlin. The Kestrel is the smallest falcon in the United States, and Merlins are the second smallest. Often mistaken for pigeons because of their size, these hunters feast on lizards, small snakes, small rodents, and large insects such as dragonflies or grasshoppers. These cute killers stayed still long enough for me to get a couple of decent portraits.

Wait five minutes. These photos were all taken within five minutes, each one showing a slightly different color, fog density, light reflections. Change is constant. If you're going through a dark time, maybe the sun just hasn't peeked over the horizon yet. If you're feeling anxious and hurried in the moment, take a deep breath, and realize how temporary that moment is. If you're feeling so much joy it seems almost indulgent, know that too will change; so go ahead, indulge in it.

I feel like breaking rules today. If you're a photographer/artist/designer you know what rules I'm breaking. Just for the fun of it! Red-shouldered hawk taking a rest in the middle of the day.

Some more closeups of the Long-tailed Skipper Butterfly that was kind enough to let me get a couple of shots off. Loving the different pollinators my Scorpion Tail plants are bringing in!

I was delighted to see a Long-tailed Skipper Butterfly land on the Scorpion tail plant I have at the base of my bird feeder! I rushed upstairs to change my lens, put on my flash/diffuser, and head out side to catch it before it flew off. There was just enough break in the rain for it to "skip" around from flower to flower.
