This photo won me several awards in various prestigious photography competitions. Read below to see how I took this photo.

This is a photo of a Roseate Spoonbill I came across at the FL Aquarium near Clearwater, FL. It was sitting by an exhibit next to the stairs that go up to the tree house above the alligator exhibit. It was close enough to me, that I didn’t have to use that much of a zoom range. I always admired Roseate Spoonbills for their beautiful pinkish colors and their spoon like bill. My dad was a wetland zoologist and was a member of the Audubon Society for several years when I was younger, we used to go birding a lot together before his passing in 2025. He thought me a lot of Florida’s native birds. For the editing process I made the background black by using a brush in Lightroom and lowering the exposure and adding contrast in certain areas.

This photo went on to win several awards like being a finalist in American Photography Open in 2018 and receiving an honorable mention in the Neil Dankoff Photography Competition in Partnership With 500 PX several years ago.
