High Ground Odyssey

High Ground Odyssey Hi there! We're the Sparrow Brothers. I'm Charlie, and this is my big brother Homer Scott. Now, it's what we do! - What's your story?

We've always wanted to work together to tell his amazing stories, and the stories of other cool people.

While serving as a platoon leader in Iraq, Homer led route clearance missions to find and clear improvised explosive devices (IEDs) before they could harm coalition forces or civilians traveling those roads.

The work required constant risk assessment and mitigation. They did an incredible job of it—but the job was so dangerous that Homer still got his “bell rung” more than 20 times from IED blasts impacting the vehicles he was in.

Those repeated explosions are most likely the reason Homer developed Parkinson’s disease so young.

In this short clip from the High Ground Odyssey Podcast, Scott talks about those missions and why they were worth the risk.

These are the kinds of stories we want to share—about Homer and others—stories of leadership, service, and the experiences that shape who we become.

The learning curve is steep and so far I've failed to hit our goal of publishing our episodes ever Wednesday, but we will not go quietly into the night! (Oh man I totally need to find an excuse to use that clip!)

We're going to keep doing until we get good at this thing.

Episode 2 "It's a metaphor!"

Is rendering right now and will be uploaded today. Thanks everyone so much for your support and patience. While I'm wrapping up here's the Title Sequence for this weeks episode.

After 10 years of trying to write a book and start a podcast, it was Homer's diagnosis with early onset Parkinson's disease and medical retirement from the military that finally got us to just do it.

Episode 01 of High Ground Odyssey is finally here.

It's a weekly show where we break down leadership principles from the battlefield and back them up with behavioral science.

In this premiere, Scott opens up about the diagnosis, surviving ~20 IED attacks in Iraq, and the hilarious reason he runs in the freezing cold ("The Wednesday Rule").

We’d be honored if you joined us on this journey.

It’s finally here!

After 10 years of talking about it, Homer (Scott) and I are finally writing The Book. And we’re taking you with us.

Tomorrow, we launch High Ground Odyssey—a weekly show where a Combat Engineer (Homer) and a Data Nerd (Charlie) deconstruct leadership, history, and why I’m right about Star Wars.

We decided to start with a little music. This is the theme song for Episode 01... and I'll be re-recording the lyrics every week with a line or two changed to match the story we are telling.

Check out the teaser, and we hope you'll join us tomorrow for the premiere!

Charlie here. I wanted to share some wise words from my brother Homer and Aaron Terry on how they survived day 3 and 4 after such a difficult day 2 of the 4 day Nijmegen march.

We've talked a lot about the awesome soldiers who've helped them when Homer's Parkinson's Disease was hitting him the hardest.

Thanks also to all the kind civilians on the march and people on the sidelines along the way as well, offering food help and encouragement.

See you on the high ground!

Charlie here again, with Homer starting on Day 4 of the Nijmegen 4Daagse.

It's nice to see him spry again to start the last day of the march after a few rough endings. Homer was surprised seeing the video of how day 2 ended just how rough he looked.

We've said it a lot, and we'll keep saying it. A huge thanks to Aaron, and all the other incredible soldiers that helped along the way! 🔥

See you on the high ground!
