Christmas In July

With all this Christmas in July crap I keep seeing on the television, HRP decided to give it a shot. Tomorrow will see HRP releasing a home movie of mine from the INRD Santa Trains stop in Linton, Ind back in 2017. As I was producing that video, A certain photo came to mind..... The photo with this blog was the very first photo I took of the INRD's Santa train back in 2012. And also my first photo to appear on RRPicturearchives. My buddy and I decided last min to take off and see it and come to find out it was a good excuse for him to see another buddy of his. I wish I could tell more of a story, but I simply do not remember much. Till next time.. _Cj

"Well, It's cold in my mind"

With a heat wave in full swing here, I couldn't help but dig into some old "Winter" photos to take my mind off the heat!

Some say certain songs take them back in time. Photographs do that for me. I can look at this photo and for a min I can almost feel the cold on that winter day back in early 2014.

For just a moment tonight, I can forget about the pool being installed today and all the work I did in nearly 100-degree heat this weekend building the deck and patio. The outdoor kitchen was no walk in the park either and don't even get me started on the garden!

Time flies by so very fast. Sooner then we realize it'll soon be winter again and time to shopping for Christmas!

As for the details regarding the train, All I remember was that it was LIRC's Columbus - Jeff Yard turn.

Till next time.... -Cj

"Sitting til the morning light"

During the early evening of May 20th, 2024 CSXT #1899 "Pierre Marquette" at that time the latest release in their lineup of heritage units was leading a northbound mixed freight. We found this train tied down within yard limits at Howell Yard, where it would remain without a crew for several hours, finally departing just as the morning sun was beginning to break.

Once again proving that you can't win everytime, you can only attempt to break even.

"What A Fu***ng Storm It's Been Since Christmas"

Well, here we are! Between my brother and I, we have battled everything from health issues to depression. It has been rough since Christmas '23. Guess what? We BOTH won and we are fine! That said HRP is back! But we aren't just back to the normal s**t...... Washington DC, Ft Lauderdale, London UK, Texas, California........ We have healed and we are fine now!!!! We have expanded! This photo is my (Cj's) first since the INRD Santa train. This photo of CSXT's L453 in Seymour represents healing. There is a long ass story behind this, And I'll spare you. But for now, all I ask is that you continue to keep an eye on our channel. You won't be disappointed! Till then thank you all so much for your support!

Much love to all! -Cj

"The Santa Train in Vernon, Ind"

In what will be my final blog for a while ( As we revamp HRP), I would like to share with you a photo I took way the hell back in November of 2010.

This is a photo of the CMPA's annual Santa Train. Sadly, they no longer run this train for reason's I've yet to find out.

Anyway, the whole point of my blog's is to share memories.

This memory is short and sweet...... So here we go!

Back in 2010 CSX ran a few trains daily from Cincy to Seymour, which would use the LIRC connection to access Louisville. It was a bypass for the LCL sub.

Often my buddy Roland and I would wait uptown for these trains. While waiting on this particular day, we heard scanner chatter about a " Passenger special" in North Vernon which had caused a slight delay.

We waited for the Q train to arrive the curiosity got the best of us and we headed to North Vernon.

We arrived to find the CMPA's Santa train!

We messed around for quite some time with their excursion that day which began a personal love of that little, short line for myself.

In fact, 7 years later HRP would film a documentary on this train which we will release this year.

In time I will tell the story. It is an amazing story of memories that I truly can't wait to share.

Till then, Enjoy this photo. This photo depicts one of my favorite trackside memories a couple of miles south of North Vernon, Ind in a really cool little town called "Vernon". -Cj

"If you ever had to take a s**t"

Back in August of 2012 one of my best buddies pulled into town with an ex-CR 7300 series in lead. In addition to that there was a C40 trailing and in addition to the addition it was a Herzog train.

So, they were heading for Louisville, and back then here in Seymour, Trains would arrive from Cincinnati and stop to call LIRC for permission to take the connection track and head south.

Sometimes those trains would be under the power of my buddy, who I will leave nameless for obvious reasons, and they didn't always call LIRC upon arrival.

This particular day in August of 2012 was no exception. My best buddy showed up with an ex-CR, a C40 and a Herzog train......

Needless to say, I got my photo's. As anyone who knows me personally can tell you, I get what I want photography wise as long as it doesn't break the law. I did not get in the lead ex CR engine as the engineer was not someone I knew. But I did get up in the C40 trailing.......

I still remember this day so clearly. My late father Edward was with me. He chose not to board the train as he was not in good shape due to medical issues. But he was kind enough to let me do my thing and wait trackside.... As he always did

For me, these photos bring back such an amazing memory. I was spoiled heavily for a while. I miss those days !

On a side note, if you have ever wondered where engineers and conductors take their bathroom breaks..... Its n the nose of the wide cabs.......

All these years later I can still hear Conway Twitty on the radio, my dad cussing me and my buddies voice saying " Stay low, The FRA may be watching" -Cj

"The Hidden Producer"

I rarely if ever show my identity. I don't care if people know who I am and what I look like, But I have always been happier "Behind the scenes" if you will.

Back in September of 2016, CSXT's (Then new) "Safety" engine, #3099 showed up with their safety training train late one evening in Seymour. I first saw this train from my then mother in laws back yard and decided to chase it!

To my surprise it was stopping here in Seymour as a training session was planned for the next day to educate our local emergency responders on various issues that could potentially occur.

I have NEVER been one to take selfies with trains as I have, and still, Find it rather "Tacky" for lack of a better term.

However, this day I made an exception.

Once this train was parked here (Freeman Field) and evryone left for their hotels for the night, I began my photoset.

I honestly do not recall why I decided to take a selfie.

But I did.

Now, Eight years later, I am glad I did.

Sometime after this photo was taken, 3099 somehow made its way to Mexico and was involved in a nasty derailment. It was never repaired and is now simply a memory. My weight at that time is now too simply a memory but I am working on that :)

It is one of the very few "selfies" I am glad I took! -Cj

" When She Still Liked Trains "

This is not going to be a long blog like some I have composed.

This blog is for my daughter........ My first born.

I have been a father for almost 12 years now and I can honestly say, It has been the best 12 years of my life. Despite the many challenges I would not trade any of it for anything. When my daughter was little, she thought trains were cool because daddy did.

The photo you see here was one of the last times my daughter and I "Got a train" together in which she was as enthused as I was.

That said, the girl you see in the photo is almost 12 now.

So needless to say, that kid couldn't give two s**ts about trains anymore. But that's fine.

But, for a moment in time, she did. No matter how long I live I will never forget those times when she still like trains. -Cj

"My Aunt Trishie"

Some years ago, my late Aunt Trishie and I were sitting on the porch on Crane Hill at my grandmother's house (her sister) and talking about anything and everything.

The subject of trains came up and My Aunt Trishe told me this story....... and I quote;

"Back in the late 60's I did a lot of L*D and acid, I was a wild child, flower power, groovy all that s**t. Well anyway my best friend and I were in the car heading east on St Rd 46 in Columbus, Ind when we heard train horns. We realized not only were we on an acid or l*d tip but we were nearing the railroad crossing so we pulled up to it and stopped. I heard a foul sounding train horn and next thing I knew three black engines that said "Penn Central" on the side went in front of us. Well, I set and waited patiently as one does for a train when I noticed all the cars behind me honking. (Writers note; St Rd 46 was a two-lane road at the time) and I it really pi**ed me off. There was a train going through in front of me, Honk all ya want fu***rs, I can't move! Finally, the train cleared, and I hit the gas and moved on! Now almost 50 years later I can tell you honestly, I have no fu***ng idea if there was a train there or not......

After hearing My aunt tell this story, I asked her " Did your friend see the train?" to which she replied " F**k if I know, But she didn't want to crash either!"

As I type this now My Aunt Trishie is a memory now as she left this world in October of 2023. The crossing she was talking about is gone now too as a much-needed bypass was built recently.

My Aunt Trishie may have been a wild child in the 60's but by the time I knew her she was past all that.

She was one of the most beautiful women I ever knew. She loved me like I was her own. I was her own. She promised me she would never let me go.

I will never let you go either Aunt Trishie!

Till we meet again, And we WILL!

This blog is dedicated to the loving memory of my precious Aunt, Patricia Shelton (1952-2023)

Ill never let you go, I promise! -Cj

"My buddy Phil...."

In my 30+ years trackside I have met so many railroaders that have become good friends. Phil was one of those. Phil had an special place with me.

Back in 2019, I received a call from a mutual friend informing me that Phil was no longer with us. It was heartbreaking. It was months before I could even look at a train.

Aside from all the sadness, there is a great deal of joy from my years knowing Phil. Over the years he and I made a great many memories.

Phil was one of the kindest men anyone could ever meet. He always had something funny to say. He never really complained. He would rarely vent any frustrations, but when he did, he remained positive.

He was beyond proud of his wife and family. I've heard so may stories about them over the years that I felt like I knew them.

He spoke often of his wife Dorothy. I have never had the honor of meeting her in person, but I have spoken with her via FB msgr and she's every bit as sweet as he always said. I hope one day our paths cross and I can meet her in person.

I have many years of memories knowing one of the greatest guys to ever walk the face of this earth!

Like Phil, my father is also not a part of this world anymore. As the years pass, I am often reminded of a conversation Phil and my father had one day.

Phil asked my father what I saw in trains. My father looked at him and said, "Hell if I know, He's loud and noisy just like the trains are".

He and Phil shared a good laugh about that. That laugh they shared is something I will NEVER forget!

In loving memory of Phil Clary
