Something that is really important to me as a photographer is respecting my clients and their wishes when it comes to sharing their images online.

Just because I can share an image doesn't mean I should.
Especially when it comes to children, I never want a parent to feel pressured to allow their child's face to be posted on my social media simply because they hired me. If a family asks me not to share their child's face, I respect that, no questions asked.

There are so many beautiful moments in a session that can be shared without showing a child's face, and I'm more than happy to find those moments.

Your family, your children, your privacy. šŸ¤

I am incredibly grateful that you trust me to document your family, and respecting that trust will always matter more to me than getting a photo for Instagram.

The most meaningful moments are the ones that capture life exactly as it is.

This sweet family invited me out to their farm, and we spent the evening chasing five kiddos, loving on their older dog, visiting the chickens and ducks, and of course saying hi to every farm kitty we came across.

Mom’s biggest wish wasn’t perfectly posed photo, it was capturing their everyday life. The animals they love. The home their kids are growing up in. And especially photos with their sweet pup, whose face has gotten a little grayer over the years.

I think about this a lot… so many of us grew up flipping through photo albums filled with snapshots our parents took on film cameras. Birthday parties, backyard adventures, random Tuesday afternoons, our childhoods were documented.

Now we all have amazing cameras in our pockets, but somehow the whole family is rarely in the photos. One parent is usually behind the phone, and those everyday moments often just sit on a camera roll instead of becoming something we can look back on.

So here’s my little reminder, let’s bring back documenting everyday life. Let’s bring back photo taking dads. Let’s make sure our kids have photos that include everyone, the hugs, the laughter, the chaos, the place they called home, and even the pets who were part of their story.

Because one day, those ā€œordinaryā€ moments are going to mean everything.

One of the sweetest things about bringing home a new baby is watching everyone adjust in their own time, even the family cat.

New routines, tiny cries, slower days… it’s a season of learning for everyone.

This is why families are my favorite.

Not because of perfectly coordinated outfits or blooming lilacs (although I'll gladly take both), but because I get to witness the in-between years. The years where one child becomes two. Where tiny babies return with completely different personalities. Where a family grows, changes, and somehow still feels exactly like themselves.

I've photographed this crew multiple times now, and every session feels like opening the next page of a story I've been lucky enough to follow.

Let's talk lighting!

Photography is all about light and emotion, and learning how to embrace both in every season and setting. This session was photographed at 4pm in April with bright sun, open spaces, and not a lot of tree coverage. A few years ago, I would have been such a stickler about only shooting at sunset for that soft, glowy light. But over time, and since becoming a mom(hello bedtime), I’ve learned that every kind of lighting has its own beauty and feeling to it.

I love being flexible with my clients and their real life routines, especially with little ones. Sometimes the best photos don’t happen at ā€œperfectā€ golden hour, they happen when kids are happy, rested, and able to just be themselves. And honestly, there’s something I really love about the warmth, contrast, and brightness that daytime light can bring to a gallery.
