"quiet evening"

Here is a picture of a Great Blue Heron. He was being very still and practically posing for me which allowed me to get this great shot! I spotted him at the aptly named "Heron Haven" wetland.

Here is a picture of a fledgling red-bellied woodpecker. He attempted to visit our bird feeder today. A parent woodpecker was close by.

"The Marmot Trail"

Here is a picture of a yellow-bellied marmot taken on a trail in the snowy range. My mother had remembered seeing marmots on a past trip to the mountains but could not remember which trail they were on. After much debate and several trails, we found the alledged trail with a large group of marmots (admittedly there are probably many trails with marmots...) I captured this picture along that trail.

"Hummingbird"

I visited Medicine Bow National Forest recently and the visitor center had many Hummingbird feeders hung. There were tons of hummingbirds coming in and buzzing around the feeders. I was lucky to get this picture. I am not certain, but I think this a "Broad-tailed" Hummingbird.

"tragedy and triumph"

Though many of these photos are not in focus, I thought they were too silly to not share. We have several small mulberry trees in our yard and the robins love to grab the fruit right off the tree to eat. This particular robin grabbed a mulberry and brought it to the (sloped) roof of our house to eat. He made the mistake of setting it down. I captured the harrowing moment Mr. Robin went chasing after his prized berry as it tumbled down the roof🤣Luckily, he caught up to it and set it down in a safer spot before gobbling it up. In the final photo he stands proudly with a berry stained beak.

"Sticky situation"

Our backyard wrens have been very busy. I've been lucky to observe the female (I think) wren collecting and moving twigs into her house. It is amazing how much stuff such a tiny bird can move.

"Bugs" Here is a picture of a very busy American Robin with a mouth full of bugs (yuck - but yummy to him).

"Singing"

Here is a picture of a Northern House Wren. This year we put up a wren house in our tree. For the past few weeks I have heard a wren singing away in the backyard and twigs have started to appear sticking out of the holes in the birdhouse. A few days ago I finally got a picture of him. I have read that male house wrens often build many nests and the female chooses one to complete. We think they have chosen our birdhouse! :)

"Happy Robin"

Here is a video of an American Robin singing. Robins are often the first bird you hear early in the morning and the last birds you hear singing at dusk. The sound of the American Robin brings back a rush of nostalgia.
