My fave area to capture cloud coverage in Budd Inlet, Olympia, WA. Continue boating to your left, and you quickly reach the point where the Deschutes River flows into Budd Inlet. Early French fur traders in America named this PNW river, Rivière des Chute (Deschutes River).

Driving into an Awakening

We left Seattle and headed south on I-5.

We knew the drill: a dull, dark, and drizzly sky would es**rt us to Olympia—firmly holding us under its tight grip for 60 miles.

With all its humbug bitterly displayed,
we understood:
the path home would be tense,
with sudden stops
and slow starts.

But life,
oh yes, life’s changeable:
sweet moments were ahead.

We approached Tacoma, and watched in awe as the light and delight of a glistening sunset poured over I-5’s traffic lanes.

A spectacle seldom seen,
the color and beauty
dominated our thoughts,
captured our hearts.

Mount St. Helen (distant top right) is 94 miles from our home.

When Mt. St. Helen exploded in 1980 - we never thought we would live close to this powerful volcano, but life is full of surprises.

We’ve spent many beautiful years enjoying the shade of WA’s thick cool evergreen trees and the surreal sunsets from the top of our little mountain in WA state! 🥰🌲🌳☔️🌧️🌲
