One of the most amazing things about Monument Valley, is the sudden change of color that truly separates the mittens from anything else around them.

There was one thing I wanted from our last trip out west — to see and photograph at least ONE wild horse.
This one was the first wild horse we saw on the trip that was close enough to photograph, yet also keep a safe distance.
I loved how curious he was, always looking back at us.
Farther down the road, we found a whole herd of them.

I do love the simplicity of the shot with the smooth color tones. Always a delight to edit files.

With “creatures” like these jutting up from the otherwise flat terrain, no wonder the minds of the ancients were fueled by mythology.

Seeing the first hint of mittens in Monument Valley for the first time, peeking out from afar and covered in haze, was an incredible feeling.
We had very promising clouds for our Monument Valley shot — which we really wished for, so the excitement grew a little more while driving towards it.
This is again, just a snap shot with the Leica and the Summarit-S 120mm f/2.5 — both have been treating us real nice and it’s just a joy to edit those raw files.

Driving through the desert, it was fascinating to see so many different lone rock formations in the middle of nowhere. 🌵

This one in particular caught our attention, with its sharp crags and the fleeting spot of light right in the middle.

To be completely honest, I love and hate this picture at the same time.
It’s obviously a snap shot (even so with the Leica, the raw files of which edit beautifully). Nothing really artistic about it — no thought behind it; we just stopped the truck and snapped it.
The sky has my most disliked (white and fluffy) clouds for photography, and everything just seems flat.
At the same time though, it strongly reminds me of all those western movies I watched growing up. (Imagine myself watching classic westerns in Greece, as a young city girl ha). But that brings me heartwarming thoughts and feelings, because I never imagined myself ever visiting these places.
Funny...how life is.

Leaving Colorado and entering Utah was one of the most interesting change of landscapes we’ve ever encountered.
Finally we got to see horses — some of them more fortunate than others.

SOLIDARITY
I never realized mountains could be such captivating subjects all on their own in photography, until our road trip through Colorado.
Driving around the Rockies, this was all you could see. It was a very moody and melancholic atmosphere, driving back, disappearing in between pinnacles; drowning within them. Hypnotized, your eyes would follow peak after peak through the mountain pass.

The sky was a palette of blue and gray; faint textures of misty clouds gently resting against the mountains.

Next stop, Utah.

HALLET PEAK | COLORADO
Colorado was the first destination during our trip. It’s been some years since I was around mountains — I mean mountains that make your jaw drop, worthy of the car sickness driving up and around them. We stayed the night in Denver to acclimate some to the change of altitude (5,600ft). The air was drier than usual, but nothing really too worrying yet. The day after we would head up into the Rockies, hike to Dream Lake. On our way in the early morning, we were absolutely astounded by the immense beauty of Colorado’s nature — the thick alpine forest surrounding the curvy road, leading to the sharp, dressed in white mountain peaks — it strongly felt like my second home in Austria. It couldn’t have been better, until the very moment the light pierced through the dark blanket of clouds; kissing the sharpest point of Hallet Peak — with only seconds to capture it.
P.S. The white outline isn’t contrast or clarity halos — it is literally the snow being blown off the crest of the mountain.
