Blizzard at PHL:

Having snow blasted at your face in 40+ mph wind gusts is apparently my idea of a good time. In case you were wondering, it stings. At least the pictures are nice.

Winter’s Light

The galactic center of the MilkyWay galaxy becomes visible starting in February for the northern hemisphere, and February is a great time to get out to view and capture the data due to crisp cool air allowing tge starlight to really shine through. This morning I met up with some friends at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, which made the morning that much more enjoyable.

Googins’ Galaxy

Googin’s Rocks in Old Orchard is a favorite of mine for photography. I love how the incoming tide plays with the rocks. Overnight though, it’s a different story. Longer exposures smooth out the water to give it a more silky feeling, which I think works here as it allows the rock formation and the sky the space to shine.

A serene morning at Portland Head Lighthouse. The rising moon broke through the clouds just before sunrise, complimenting the scene with this beautiful transition from night to day. Seagulls were an added bonus.

With sub zero temps and snow on the way today, I went out to capture a little taste of winter in OOB.

Snowy:

This time of year, the snowy owls start making their way from the arctic tundras south to be able to find food. Maine is a temporary home to many, and it gets the bird enthusiasts excited. I’m not much of a birder, but I did happen to find a snowy chilling on a room, enjoying the gentle breeze, and otherwise just keeping its head on a swivel for any potential sights of food.

Biddeford Pool and the Wolf Moon with Wood Islas Lighthouse.

Happy 2026! Saturday night I decided it was time to get back behind the lens and explore sunset opportunities and a potential to see the first full moon of the year rise. Cloud cover was heavy to the south and west, which provided a nice backdrop for some seascapes. The clouds cleared just enough for moonrise and I made my way through East Point Santuary looking for an angle to catch it near the lighthouse. I missed the initial peak through the clouds as it came up, but I found a spot and got to work as it passed through the next layer of clouds. As the moon got higher, I for used more in the lighthouse and the nice glow off the water.

Shout out to and who were also there checking out the moonrise. Be sure to check out their incredible work!
