Tire tracks pressed into wet mud, with rough clumps and bits of debris caught in the grooves. The black and white look makes the shadows deeper and the texture stand out, showing the marks left behind after something rolled through.

Now that we have some nice weather, our Urban Texture Project is moving along!

Cracked concrete is something most of us step over without a second thought, but up close, it turns into a landscape. The cracks become leading lines, the rough grit becomes texture, and those small stones tucked into the crack feel like detail you’d only notice if you slowed down. That’s what this project is about: taking the simplest surfaces we ignore every day and framing them in a way that turns wear, time, and imperfection into art. Now that the holidays are over, I will be outside capturing images to share. Please follow us so you can enjoy our photo project journey to the end!

Today’s photo theme: Surfaces.
I’m paying attention to what’s under our feet and around us, because the city tells its story through texture. This close-up is just gravel, but when you get tight on it, it stops being “just gravel” and starts looking like a map… or a pattern… or something you could hang on a wall. Once our Urban Textures project is complete, these types of photos will be amazing artwork! 📷

I’ve got a new photo project I’m starting for 2026, and it’s a little different from what I usually share.
I’m chasing Urban Texture! Peeling paint, rust streaks, cracked concrete, chipped signs… all the little “forgotten” details the city wears every day.
I love the idea that the streets keep a record of time, weather, work, and people, without needing a single face in the frame.
