I’m not sure when it changed—when I stopped just looking for myself in piles of old photos and started looking for photos of my parents with me.

I think that shift was solidified when I became a mother and I finally understood the depth of the love they had for me.

One day, our kids won’t just be looking for snapshots of themselves from their childhood.

They’ll be looking for us—for the way we held them, the way we looked at them, the way we were there.

They’ll be looking for evidence of how deeply they were loved. 🤍

When I first photographed Becca and Casey, they were in the tender newborn days—their world had just grown from two to three.

A year later, watching Becca sway in the sunset with their now-big boy—it was pure joy!

Getting to document families in more than one season is one of the greatest honors of this work.

Dancing in the living room + snuggling on the couch.

It’s these things—the everyday, mundane things we do with our people under our own roof—that we will miss the most one day.

Do I love frolicking in a field or under the trees with my family? Absolutely (and peep the portraits on the wall in the last photo to see that this family does too—what an honor to be asked to photograph them again, this time in their own home!).

But it’s moments like these that I’ll want to relive in 10 years, 20 years, 50 years. At home, together, doing ordinary things on an ordinary morning.

This was my last session in NJ, and it’s bittersweet to be starting over in a new place. Here’s to the sweet families who trusted me to preserve memories for them there—and here’s to new adventures here in Oklahoma City, and new families to serve.

When I saw Brooke and Luke walking up the path with their kids for this session, I commented on how cute Theo looked. “He looks like a missionary on furlough,” Brooke said. 😂 The cutest one I’ve ever seen!!!

Absolutely loved capturing the love of this sweet family whom we call dear friends.

It’s only fitting that part of our session would take place in the fresh waters of NJ.

Pre-kids, Adam and I floated the Delaware River with Brooke and Luke, and my only very clear memory from that day is of Brooke credit-carding Luke with her paddle when he stood up on the raft. He learned his lesson—he was the only one during this family session who didn’t get in the water!!

“These are the days that we’ll want back.” I’ve been reminding myself of this truth when our five-year-old asks for one more story, when our two-year-old asks to be covered up with his blankie again, and as our baby nurses through the night. The days are long, but one day we will want them back! The years are so short.

For the Moran family, it’s the tree-climbing, flower-picking, chicken hugging days.

Saturday morning at home with the Moran family (part 1!). Coffee for Mama, eggs fresh from the coop out back, books and giggles on the couch, and Chip never having been so loved! 🐾

These are the most meaningful kinds of sessions to me: real life at home together.

Best friends for life. 🤍 This big sister and brother are smitten with Baby Luke, and I must say—I am, too! Just when I thought babies couldn’t get any cuter!
