So excited to be a part of Storm Chaser Chelsea Burnett’s Weather Explorers! To be able to inspire little scientists and future weather enthusiasts is such an honor!
Sooooo one of my favorite surprises in creating Weather Explorers has been realizing just how many people in the weather community were willing to say, “Yep, I’m in.” 🌪️💙
These little video boxes represent storm chasers, meteorologists, weather educators, forecasters, researchers, photographers, and people who have spent a whole lot of hours staring at radar, driving questionable distances across the Plains, losing sleep over storms, and explaining to normal people why we are somehow excited about a giant rotating cloud. 😂
And they’ve each contributed a little something special to Weather Explorers.
I’m not going to give away the surprise just yet… 👀
But I wanted the kids who go through this program to hear more than just MY voice.
Weather is a huge field filled with people who came into it through different paths, have different specialties, have seen different storms, and have completely different stories about what made them fall in love with the atmosphere.
So I asked some people I respect in this community if they’d be willing to help me make Weather Explorers a little more personal.
And they showed up. 👏🏼👏🏼
Some recorded from offices. Some from vehicles. Some from living rooms. Some clearly gave me the classic storm-chaser version of, “Sure, Chelsea, I can knock this out real quick.” 😂
And every single video that has come in has made me smile.
Because somewhere, a kid watching this program may see one of these faces and think:
“Wait… people actually get to do this for a JOB?”
Or…
“They loved weather when they were a kid too?”
Or maybe simply…
“I could do that someday.”
That matters to me.
Weather Explorers isn't supposed to feel like 20 lessons made by one person sitting behind a screen. I want kids to feel like they've been welcomed into this weird, wonderful weather community — a place filled with curious people who never really stopped asking questions about the sky.
To everyone who took a few minutes out of your life to contribute to this little project I dreamed up: thank you. You didn't have to. You certainly didn't have to tolerate another message from me beginning with, “Okay, so I have this video request…” 😂
But you did.
And because of you, and the others that will be contributing shortly, there is a really fun surprise waiting for some future Weather Explorers.
I cannot WAIT for the kids to see it. 🌦️⚡️🌪️
Real storms. Real science. And some pretty awesome real humans behind it all!!
