*** SENSITIVE SUBJECT WARNING ***
This post is more serious than anything Iāve shared before.
A few years ago, I began volunteering with On Angels' Wings, a nonprofit that provides ongoing support and grief recovery services for families with medically fragile children or those who lose a child at birth. I was called to this work after the birth of my son and after losing my cousin as a child.
Since I've joined, I've been a part of moments too heavy for words to fully express.
Iāve photographed a babyās first breath and their last.
Iāve photographed a mother with cancer holding her stillborn child.
Iāve photographed impossibly strong babies who never graduated from the NICU.
And I will never forget a single one.
I carry their names, their tiny fingers and toes, and the moments Iāve grieved alongside their families with me every day. It is the greatest honor and the deepest humility to be trusted with these moments.
On Angelsā Wings is truly a blessing. If you are able to donate or share this with someone who can, please consider doing so here: https://oawphoto.org/donate/
Like so many nonprofits, OAW has faced increasing challenges over the past few years. There is an incredible amount of work happening behind the scenes, carried by volunteers and staff who give their time, energy, and often their own money to keep these chapters running. We simply cannot continue this work without community support.
To anyone reading this who has experienced loss: I see you. Your grief matters, your love matters, and your child matters. Whether your loss was recent or years ago, you are not alone.
If you or someone you know may qualify for support, On Angelsā Wings currently serves families in Oklahoma through programs based in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, with services available at select hospitals. You can learn more about OAW Session Qualifications & Process here: https://oawphoto.org/get-photos/qualifications-processes/
This post is focused only on the loss sessions Iāve been honored to be part of. Iāll share more about Journey sessions at a later time.
Thank you for reading and supporting families during the moments that matter most.
