Today I got my first full frame and my first mirrorless camera. I’ve been really happy with my Canon EOS 90D this last year. It’s a great camera and I’ve taken some shots with it I’m very proud of. It’s a camera I plan on keeping and using regularly. But the crop sensor format does have its limitations and I’m ready to start exploring some more night and low light photography.

I took an extended hiatus from photography. Partly because life got busy, as it tends to do. Partly because I had lost sight of what I enjoyed about photography. I enjoy taking pictures. I enjoy nerding out on gear. I enjoy learning the craft and improving my skills. I enjoy editing and creating. I don’t enjoy the social media popularity contest. I don’t enjoy endless hours trying to do SEO. I don’t enjoy trying to elicit smiles from strangers.
When I turned my love of photography into a money-making venture, I stopped loving photography. I recently started picking my camera back up and I’ve been rediscovering what I love about photography. Sometimes just taking photos of your child in your backyard is more edifying than anything else.
