“Grief is the price we pay for love.”

I took these photos several months ago and never got around to sharing them. I’ve been taking photos for Eve and her family for 15+ years. I took her high school senior photos, college senior photos, maternity photos, and many, many photos of her beautiful daughter, Lila. I’ve done photos for her sisters, her mom, her nephew, etc. Her dad, Everette, lived out of state and I had never met him until this photo shoot. He was a tall man and looked like he could be intimidating, but was the complete opposite. He was quiet and shy in front of the camera and smiled with his eyes. His love for his daughters and grandchildren was easy to capture.

Everette had just been diagnosed with cancer before these photos and he passed away this weekend. His girls were there by his side. I know their hearts are breaking right now and I hope these photos and all the memories they’ve shared with their dad will help ease that pain just a tiny bit.

Take the photos. Capture the big moments, but also capture those small moments that seem insignificant at the time. And tell your people you love them every single day.

Everette, you have two amazing daughters with the kindest hearts and your legacy will live on through your children and grandchildren. Rest easy.
