Checker WE, a cute little palomino driving stallion ❀

I've always been so interested in driving! It looks like a lot of fun and is a discipline I would love to learn someday!

Do you have a discipline you want to try outside of your usual one?

I'm always on the search for creative new ways to elevate my portraits! Creating colorful imagery has quickly become a favorite 😁

All the color is created in camera - meaning it's not something that I add later on in photoshop. It's certainly a challenge to get right but the payoff is always so unique and makes all the challenges so worth it!

Arrow is always such a fun horse to get in front of my camera! He's always learning new tricks and most of them can be done in my mobile studio 😊

Have you ever wanted to teach your horse a cool trick? Let me know what it is!

Atlas 🌎 an older BLM mustang. He wasn't the biggest fan of having his portraits taken (as I'm sure you can tell) and while we did get ears forward images, I quite like his natural expression πŸ˜‚

One of my favorite things about being able to take portraits of horses is capturing their true emotions, whether it's boredom, happiness, uncertainty, or energetic.

I find from my own experiences when looking back at photos of your horse these types of images can bring back fond memories of that may otherwise be forgotten. And sometimes remembering that "mare stare" or goofy gelding expression hits harder than just those perfectly posed ears forward portraits.

One of the biggest challenges of being an equine photographer is feeling like there is only space in the industry for standard horse & rider portraits and black backgrounds - all using natural light.

I don't think there is anything wrong about choosing to create images in that genre, but I never felt like I quite fit in there. And eventually I got burnt out and almost quit equine photography all together.

But then inspiration struck by a friend who did fashion photography and I learned how to apply techniques used to create editorial images to my work and it's been life changing! The creativity and pure joy in creating one-of-a-kind artwork fills my soul and is a big part of why I'm so passionate about making time to create imaginative art ❀ Whether it's for a client or as a passion project for myself, creating colorful and stand out images of my equine models inspires me in so many aspects of not only my business but also my personal life!

Happy New Year πŸ₯³

2022 brought so many changes for me personally, my family, and The Equine Studio. I always like to take the time to reflect on the good and bad that happened so I can take those lessons and enter into the new year with positivity and hope for what the future has to offer!

I want to thank all of my past clients who have supported me and my business over the years ❀️ I hope you and your families had a wonderful holiday and have an amazing start to 2023!

Every now and then I come across a horse who doesn't quite want to put their ears forward for photos or they just get bored during their session.

One useful trick I've found when the typical methods to attract their attention aren't working, such as treats, brooms, or horse sounds played off my phone, the silver reflector I bring along tends to get them interested! It's shiny and makes an interesting noise when you scratch it with your nails, and it almost never fails me! It's always an interesting - and sometimes exhausting - process to get ears forward 😁

UpForAlmostAnything - barn name Piper.

My love for paints only grows stronger every time they step into my portable studio ❀ Each horse brings such a unique look and it's one of my favorite things to show off in photos. I'm especially obsessed with eye patterns such as Piper's. Isn't it just the coolest? What do you think is a really cool marking/pattern a horse can have?
