Made a trip to the Jacksonville Zoo and got to photograph one of the wildest-looking birds on the planet the cassowary. Safe to say I’m good seeing this one at the zoo instead of face to face somewhere in the Australian rainforest.
Something about this shot feels cinematic to me, like it belongs on the cover of a thriller movie. What’s the craziest bird you’ve ever seen in person?

Megaopcis asio in attack mode Spent hours observing this red morph eastern screech owl yesterday, hoping for something different than the typical perch shot. Then it landed on this branch, locked eyes for a split second, and I knew the moment was coming. Camera focused, finger ready and suddenly the silence of the woods turned into pure motion. @

Silent. Camouflaged. Ruthless.

The Eastern Screech Owl Megascops asio may be small, but it’s one of the fiercest nocturnal raptors in North America. From rodents and songbirds to reptiles and insects, almost nothing escapes once those yellow eyes lock in. Built for ambush hunting, they strike with deadly precision while remaining almost completely invisible against the bark. Nature packed apex-predator energy into an 8-inch owl

I’ve always wanted to photograph an eastern screech owl differently not just a clean perch shot, but hidden within the woods exactly the way you’d naturally find it, blended into the leaves, bark, and shadows. This was the image I had in my head before I ever pressed the shutter: quiet, watchful, almost invisible… until the eyes lock onto you. Sometimes the vision actually comes to life.
