Found my first Blue Grosbeak at the Ocala Wetland Recharge Park this morning! Sadly I only saw females, so I didn’t get a glimpse of those beautiful blue colors 💙

Also pictured are the American Kestrel (our tiniest falcon, one of my favorites) and a Red-Winged Blackbird 🐦‍⬛

I’ve been checking on these mystery eggs every weekend for exactly a month now at Silver Springs, and after being given all kinds of fun guesses — fallen bird eggs, water snake, gator (obviously not), I finally found them under the watchful eye of a large water snake 🐍

However after talking to a fellow tour guide I learned that they are actually coral snake eggs, and this big guy was probably just after some dinner!

Most of the snakes around the water in Florida actually keep their eggs inside them until they’re ready to hatch, essentially giving live birth. Those that do lay eggs (coral for example) generally never return to them.
