In three days we drive him to college and old photos like this one are hitting me hard.

It feels like I’ve spent the past 18 years preparing us both for this next chapter, and yet I am finding it hard to believe that we are already here. The longest I’ve ever been away from him is when I had to stay longer in NY during Hurricane Sandy. To say this is going to be a big change for us both is an understatement.

Antonio and Jessica first met over 20 years ago as classmates at a sweet little elementary school in San Francisco.

Years later, they reconnected and admitted to having little crushes on each other back in second grade.

While reminiscing about when they first met, they looked in an old yearbook, found their second grade teacher and reached out to her. Teachers always love to hear from former students, and this sweet love story was no exception.

Fast forward to a few months ago. Antonio reached out to their former teacher again and announced that he was going to propose to Jessica and he wanted her to photograph the proposal!

By now you may have figured out that it was me! I was their second grade teacher and had the incredible honor of being a part of this special moment.

So much thought went into making this a special surprise for Jessica, and the photos we took together captured their beautiful love story perfectly.

Looking at old photos has the power to take your breath away.

It brings you back to the days when their little hands fit in yours and you could carry them in your arms.

It reminds you of how young they were once.

It showcases the beginnings of their personalities shining through.

And so, so much more.

I’ve been reflecting a lot on the power that photographs hold. I’ve spent the past week staring at family photos of my mother-in-law, reflecting on her life and remembering the good times we had with her. Being in her home again made me miss her so much, but there was a sense of peace as I stared at these images of a life well lived and a person so well loved.

I also felt a deeper pull to continue doing this work. On that note, I will be opening up my fall calendar next week. If you’d like to exist in your family photos, I invite you to sign up for my newsletter (link in bio) to have access to priority scheduling and exclusive session offers only available to those on the list.

BE IN THE PHOTO
💕
It's easy to shy away from photographs because you're so busy, so exhausted, not feeling your best.
💕
It's easy to be the taker and never let yourself be 'in', when holidays make you feel exposed or 'less than.’
💕
But one day, your loved ones, will search for those memories, to bolster their own.
💕
Those pictures, no matter how you look, are set to become absolutely precious.
💕
And no one, not one of them, will care how 'together' you looked.
They will care, very much, that it is you.
💕
And all of your you-ness, will be the exact gift they very much needed in that moment.
💕
Be in the photo... they are not for you.

Happy Anniversary to my husband who goes ALL IN on everything he does, including our themed family dinner parties during Covid.

22 years later, he’s still making me laugh. Grateful for him and all he does for us…but even more grateful that his Covid hair is gone.

What is the value of a photograph? New blog post is up.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the thousands of photos I have tucked away in shoeboxes and albums, as well as the photos from more recent years that are now filling my camera roll, hard drives and the cloud. When I think about choosing one of those photos I have stored away…would I be abl...

I can say, with absolute certainty, that the “everyone squeeze together and snuggle in” is my favorite pose for families. It always creates the most genuine smiles and expressions. Extra cuddles are the cherry on top, am I right?!

If you’re thinking about family photos this fall, I have just a few remaining slots available!

Email [email protected] for details because I truly believe that you need to get IN the photos with your family and there is no better time than now.

We should all have a photo where someone looks at us with such adoration and love.

These are the little things I look for during a photo session. Whether it’s an embrace, a perfectly timed glance, or a raw emotion coming through…my job as your family photographer is to hold space and patiently wait for those moments.

Sure, there are photos where everyone is looking at the camera, and others where no one is looking at the camera because they are engaged with each other.

But this little glance between mom and son tells a whole different story. For me, this is the story I want to tell with my camera.

Do you have a photo in your life where someone is looking at you with such love and happiness? I’d love to hear about it! 👇🏻

Happy Birthday to this little lady! She has always been a great mom, but she was born to be a grandmother!

Do your children still have grandparents in their lives? If so, I suggest taking photos of them together as often as possible. I promise, you won’t regret it.

I can’t take away every pain, but I can listen with an open heart.

I can’t solve every problem, but I can try to help them find the answers from within.

I can’t control how they feel about something, but I can lead by example and be a reminder to always give grace to ourselves.

I can’t always let go, but I can always be there for them.
PS. Has anyone else gotten the memo that parenting is really really really hard?
