I don't want to commit to saying the pandemic is over, but I am starting to come out of isolation a little bit, and so I went to visit my old friend Gordon Studer at his studio in Sausalito. He's doing some fantastic painting out there and it's such an amazing setting—just feet away from the water and the always delicious Fish restaurant. Maisie Ganzler has been put forward for the board of McDonald's by billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn, to encourage using only humanely raised pigs in its pork products. This aligns perfectly with her mission as Chief Strategy and Brand Officer at Bon Appetit Management Company.
The best I could do was put Maisie in front of my organically raised lemon tree behind the studio. But we made lemonade!

I had the honor of photographing Stanley Falkow for Jason Pontin's Acumen Journal in the early 2000s and was thus sad to read his obituary in the New York Times this morning. We don't usually get a lot of time with people of his stature, but he was very generous with us.
If you're opposed to antibiotic use in animals and animal feed, he is the reason why. He was the first to recognize that, "that resistant bacteria thrive in the presence of antibiotics and then spread their resistance to other bacteria."
