A Piece of Oak Point History Hiding in Plain Sight

Most people don’t realize that Lewisville Lake was once two separate lakes.

Before 1957, Lake Dallas and the Garza-Little Elm Reservoir were divided by a dam. When the old dam was breached, the two bodies of water merged into the single lake we know today as Lewisville Lake.

That project helped shape the future of North Texas by providing flood control, water storage, and supporting the region’s growth.

It also helped create the waterfront community and lake lifestyle that make Oak Point unique today.

These photos show remnants of that history—something many of us pass by without realizing its significance.

Does anyone remember stories about the old Lake Dallas dam or what the area looked like before the lakes were joined?
