I think this is the best example I have of the importance of trust in the client x creator dynamic.

This is from a client project I did with Hyman Cannabis, they were launching a new strain and trusted me to create several concepts for this product.

We had a mood-board, and thankfully they had other media surrounding this product for me to reference. The challenge with this was creating new content that was unique but still relevant to the other surrounding media already made for this launch.

I explained my vision to them, and created a very rough sketch in photoshop.

This image was photographed on grey paper, the neutral grey eliminates reflections onto the products and makes retouching easier. It also makes it easier to adjust the colors.

This was done so that we could match multiple colors and experiment with different color palettes.

The negative space in the top right was left there for the clients internal team to add graphics and/or titles when/if they wanted.

Going back to my main point, my client saw the concept sketch before they saw the final product. They accepted it, and trusted me to bring it to life.

What are your thoughts?

Realistic Materials depend on natural imperfections.

Its so ironic that as a photo retoucher, its my job to get rid of those imperfections but as a 3D artist its my job to ADD them back in.

I did this with these renders by scanning the real label of this beer with my Epson V700. Super happy with how this render turned out.

This angle was the most fun composite I've done in a while. There was a total of 5 images I put together to give you the final image you see here. From Left to right from above.

All of these plates were planned and shot intentionally with the idea of achieving the intended final result.

I started with a more well lit shot so that I would have the ability to have an exposure for general detail of the product such as the face of the candle. Next over, I got an exposure that had slightly darker Shadows. This was the exposure I used to later lift the shadows in that area to have more detail. I used the shadows from the next exposure to make it darker and find the contrast that I wanted in the shadows. That same exposure was used for the candle flame that you see. The next exposure (Second from the right), was used for the one flame that is out. Finally, the far right is the smoke.

This technique would had been a lot more difficult without utilizing Tiered masking by using Pathways in Photoshop.

After blending the images together and some Frequency Separation, and color & brightness adjustments, I was able to get this final image.

One of our favorite shots for our client, Hyman Cannabis!

We were asked to capture content for their upcoming product launch back in March.

Each Product Echoed back to 90's early 2000's nostalgia like Dankaroo's (Dunkaroos), Sherbet Screwball, Rock n' Rye, and more.

It was a really fun project to be a part of, you can see more of our work for this launch at the link:

Started this by first taking 20 images, on Hasselblad's Phocus tether software. This was especially. useful because Phocus has an automated feature that focus stacks images automatically. Then blended all the layers together in photoshop. To get every aspect of this image to be in focus.

I started the retouching process by first cleaning up the texture. I add a Solar layer, this helps me see the tiniest details in the images texture, and easier to clean it up using the clone tool. Before doing this however, I used the Pen tool to separate the foreground, from the background.

I then added a gradient to the background, and a custom color grade to the background, and the foreground. I wanted the background to be blue to emphasize the branding on the can. I wanted the white to be a slightly more cream color in the foreground.

after this added contrast, sharpening, and a last minute curve layer to make the front of the product a little brighter.

One of the best things about product photography, is styling!
The styling of the scene is just one of the aspects of an image that gives it its story.
For this image, we had small pool of water, and a hair dryer to make ripples in the water!
