HISTORY DOESN’T WARN YOU BEFORE IT DISAPPEARS

A pharmacy closed during Prohibition.

A sign taped to a window.

A moment that seemed ordinary to the people standing there.
More than 100 years later, this photograph tells a story no one could have predicted would matter.

Every family has photographs, letters, documents, and memories that feel ordinary today—but become priceless tomorrow.

At Black Cat Studio, we don’t just scan photos. We help preserve history before time, fading, water damage, and deterioration erase it forever.

Whether it’s a family collection, business archive, historical photographs, slides, negatives, or documents, we can digitize and preserve them for future generations.
🐈‍⬛ Preserve your history before it becomes a mystery.

A rainy day in Berlin, frozen in time. This one came across our scanner and stopped us cold. You are looking down Charlottenburger Chaussee, nowStraße des 17, straight at the Brandenburg Gate.

A woman waits by the car in the rain. The road runs east toward the divided heart of the city.

Here is how we date a photo like this:

The car is an early 1950s Chevrolet, the rounded Fleet line style built around 1950 to 1952. That sets the floor.

Look at the top of the gate. No Quadriga, the famous chariot statue. A single flag flies in its place.
The Quadriga was destroyed in the war and not restored until 1957.

So the photo predates that.
Put those together and you land in the early 1950s, most likely 1950 to 1953. The short license plate, number 211,fits the special and Allied vehicle plates used in occupied Berlin during those years.
This is why scanning matters.
A print sitting in a drawer fades and cracks. A high-resolution scan keeps everydetail readable for the next 70 years and beyond. We scan and restore old photos and documents, then print them at archival quality. Got a box of history at home? Bring it to us in Novato.
We will help you save it.

Look who turned up in the archive:
President Harry S. Truman.
We came across a document signed by Truman during another of our usual archiving projects here at the studio. Holding a piece of paper signed by the 33rd. President of the United States never gets old.

This is what we do at Black Cat Studio. We scan and digitize fragile historic documents at archival resolution, restore the ones time has worn down, and print clean reproductions you keep for good. The originals get handled once and preserved forever as files.

Got old photos, documents, or artwork worth saving? Bring them to us in Novato. Forty plus years of doing this right, serving all of Marin and the Bay Area.
