I bring the sensibilities of a newspaper photojournalist to all my work. With 20-years as a documentary photographer I have an eye for the moment and a focus on being unobtrusive and meeting deadlines. There are two primary axioms in photojournalism that apply to my work. The first “f8 and be there” was coined by Arthur “WeeGee” Felig, the early 20th century New York crime photographer. When asked
how he got such gripping photos of the seedy side of the city, he cited those two basic elements, “f8” the setting he kept his camera at for all night photography, and “be there” is obvious. The other, perhaps less catchy, has always been “Go early and stay late”. There may be a central time for any event, but the real story is always behind the scenes, the things that happen before everyone else gets there and probably after most everyone has left. When you hire me to photograph you wedding I will document the event, from start to finish, with the same comprehensive coverage I give any news event. I’m always looking for the moments, the stories and the emotions that make your day special. What I don’t do is direct your day. Other than a very short portrait session (usually between the ceremony and reception, but that can be up to you) at which you are more than welcome to invite the guests, my job is to shadow you, watch like a fly on the wall, be in the middle of everything and capture more of your happy day than you will ever see yourself. When you get your photos you will see moments you didn’t know happened, images from parts of the day that you were in the middle of and yet don’t remember the details, and of course you’ll see your family and friends sharing your day. I don’t do packages. I don’t have tiers of service. You get me, all day, from your preparations in the morning until the guests watch you ride-off to your new life together. I will supply you with a generous edit of photos from your wedding day. I won’t give you a concrete number because every wedding is different, but it can range from 200 to 500 images. I will be as generous as I can, giving you varying choices on different situations where they exist. You’ll get an album with a set of proof prints, and a computer disk containing the image files for all those proofs. I don’t require you to buy prints from me. I don’t send you through an online sales system. The photos are yours. I retain legal copyright and will use some photos from your wedding to promote my work. But I will not license your images for any commercial use without your permission and I only ask that you not license my work to any outside party. But photos albums, pages, blogs, framed enlargements, all options are open to you. My ultimate goal as your wedding photographer is to give you the visual story of your wedding day, preserving the memories forever for you and the generations to follow.
