It started as a perfect portrait…

Grumpy Gray Thrasher, perched quietly on the cactus above the rooftop, watching everything unfold below.

Then—

a brief interruption.

A moment of uncertainty…

…and just when it seemed things might not resolve so gracefully—

composure restored.

As if nothing had happened at all.

(and we will not be discussing it further 😄)

They are absolutely the most dramatic and comical birds of BCS.

Sometimes the scene finds you before you even know what you’re looking for…

I walked past this arcade in La Paz, glanced down the arches, and backed up in my tracks to look again.
A quiet conversation at the bar… and one curious dog making sure I noticed.

Flashback Friday — March 6, 2022

We were live-aboards in Portland Harbor that winter when I woke up one morning to thick fog and water so still it looked like glass. I scrambled off our boat and down to the docks as fast as I could with my camera.

I originally processed this image in color, but revisiting it later in black & white revealed what the photograph was really about: quiet, symmetry, and reflection.

Sometimes an image needs a little time before it shows you what it really wants to be.

Somewhere in La Paz,
A rooster is riding a motorcycle.

Or someone is about to get towed.

Either way - I couldn’t walk past this one.

He smiled at me first.

I felt hopeful — I could already see him in black and white.

We don’t share the same language, but when I showed him the photo, he smiled again.

Sometimes connection doesn’t need words.

Street Portrait

He smiled at me first.

I felt hopeful — I knew his face would make a beautiful black and white portrait.

When I asked, he stood tall for the lens — proud, steady, gaze unwavering.

This is my first street portrait.

We don’t speak the same language.
But after I showed him the photo, he smiled again.

Sometimes connection doesn’t need words.

What do you see?
