I’m starting to make preparations for my 2027 excursions!! Iceland is always on the agenda if anyone is interested in seeing this incredible natural and cultural wonder! There’s nothing quite like drifting through Fjallsárlón in a small boat, dwarfed by icebergs that calved off Vatnajökull. Every shade of blue you can imagine, carved by wind and time.

Our guide’s knowledge made it even better, pointing out formations and details that most visitors would float right past.

Then the moment that made the whole trip: a seal, sunning themself on an iceberg like it owned the place, completely unbothered by our boat drifting past. Pure luck, pure magic.

Iceland keeps giving reasons to come back. 🧊🦭

Stuðlagil Canyon from the main parking area 🇮🇸

This spot doesn’t get the credit it deserves for how big it actually is. Beyond the canyon itself, the main parking area has a café, restrooms, and a small gift shop. It’s a major stop that deserves a good portion of your day, not just a quick pull-off. Note: parking is paid, so use the Parka app to pay or you’ll end up with a fine and pay anyway!

The columnar basalt formations here are staggering in scale, and honestly, photos don’t do them justice until you’re standing at the edge. There is a lot of steps and moderately steep hills to climb up and down, but everything is extensively maintained and safe. Take your time, it’s not a five-minute stop. I am already planning to build it into future itineraries.

Standing at the edge of Dettifoss, feeling the ground shake beneath my feet. 🇮🇸

This is widely considered the most powerful waterfall in Europe - around 193 m³ of water per second thundering over a 44m drop into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. The mist rises so high you can see it from miles away, and the roar swallows every other sound.

A few photos of our last couple of days in Iceland. After so many trips you would think I would tire of it, but every time there are new things, amazing experiences!! One of the most wonderful aspects is that with so much natural beauty, it really doesn’t matter whether it’s raining or shining! I’m so grateful for the opportunities to share my fascination with this place with so many others!!

The incredible Icelandic horses are SO beautiful!! They aren’t super tall, but don’t make the mistake of referring to them as ponies! The nation has very strict laws to ensure purity of the breed. Want a wonderful riding experience? Gásir Horses was absolutely wonderful!!

Stuðlagil Canyon Is one of the big sites in Iceland I hadn’t been to, until today!! This canyon is below a reservoir, and the water is often brown. We’re incredibly fortunate to have gotten the super cool blue color that occurs from time to time!!
