The Story Behind the Portrait

A portrait becomes more meaningful when it tells a story.

For this senior, music has been an important part of her life, so the piano had to be part of her session.

But I didn't want the piano to simply be a background or a prop.

The dramatic lighting, the elegant black gown, and the quiet connection between her and the instrument were all intentional. Together, they create a portrait that feels sophisticated and timeless while celebrating something that has been an important part of her journey.

Her senior portraits are about who she is at this moment, and music is part of her story.

That's what I love most about senior photography: finding a way to turn the things that matter into something beautiful.

Happy National Dog Day!

Dogs have a way of making life a little happier... and senior portrait sessions a little more fun!

They may not always follow directions, sit perfectly, or look at the camera at the right moment, but that's part of what makes including them so special.

After all, our dogs are more than pets. They're part of the family, part of the memories, and sometimes our seniors' very best friend.

So today, I'm celebrating all the loyal companions who bring us laughter, unconditional love, and plenty of unforgettable moments.

Did You Know?

During a senior session, we certainly plan the important details, but some of the best portraits happen unexpectedly.

From Behind My Camera

After photographing seniors for so many years, I've learned something interesting...

The pictures parents fall in love with aren't always the ones they expected.

Sometimes it's the serious expression.
Sometimes it's the laugh that happened between poses.
Sometimes it's an image their senior almost didn't choose.

And years later, those unexpected images often become the favorites.

I think that's because the best portraits don't just show us what someone looked like.

They remind us who they were during that season of life.

That's one of the reasons I never want to create the exact same session twice.

Every senior brings something different in front of my camera. My job is simply to recognize it when I see it.

The Story Behind the Portrait

Sometimes, the location becomes part of the story.

For this portrait, I chose the majestic roots of a banyan tree because they create a sense of strength, beauty, and timelessness.

Nestled among those roots sits a talented musician with her French horn; not holding it, but simply letting it rest beside her. That was intentional.

Her instrument is an important part of her story, but it doesn't define her. Instead, it quietly reminds us of the years of dedication, rehearsals, performances, and memories that helped shape the person she has become.

The flowing gown, the soft light, and the natural textures of the tree all work together to create a portrait that feels elegant, peaceful, and authentic.

To me, this image is about more than music.

It's about celebrating a young woman whose roots have prepared her for wherever life takes her next.
