Karen captured this lovely image of a cow moose foraging in the shallow water along the shoreline of Quartz Lake, Alaska, as rippling noctilucent clouds glow overhead and reflect across the still waters of the lake.

Early Thursday morning, 2026-08-13, we were treated to a very lovely display of Noctilucent Clouds, and along with it, just a tiny smidgeon of aurora borealis. The aurora is the greenish smudge running left to right along the right edge of the image, about ¼ of the way down from the top.

Auroral activity is forecasted to pick up later in the week with the anticipated arrival of a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) that was ejected from the Sun on Sunday afternoon.

We had a cloudy night for aurora in North Pole Alaska, but doesn't mean she didn't shine. Sometimes clouds make things interesting. Hoping for a clear night tomorrow.

I love the red we could see last night. Stars Stars everywhere!!

The aurora was late last night, and there were times where is was not strong, but everywhere you pointed your camera, there was Red in the sky. You can see Jupiter shining brightly in this photo.
