Arctic Lens Photography Welcome to Arctic Lens Photography and enjoy the view of beautiful Alaska though my camera lens. I hope you enjoy the shots we share with you all via this page.

Arctic Lens Photography is photography by Nicola M, Bowen (Nikki) who enjoys showing you her view of Alaska via her camera lens. Every once in a while you will see some shots from Jason Bowen on here! Jason generally likes to leave the photographing and editing side of things to Nikki and often will refer to himself as the finance and transportation department ;). The LENS part of Arctic Lens Photography name represents Nikki and Jason's four children who are named Lilly, Ethan, Nathan and Steven. Nikki is mainly a hobbyist photography and originally from England and has been very blessed to visit and see many great sites around this world. But finally found her heaven on earth in Alaska and found her forever home. Nikki is very at one with nature and nothing brings her greater pleasure than being out with her family exploring Alaska with the joys of having no cellphone signal and really being at one with the great outdoors. Her passion with photography leans heavily towards wildlife and sled dog photography. But you will find her out freezing her butt off under a amazing sky filled by the aurora borealis some winter nights. With wildlife photography the thrill and never knowing what you may see or what will cross your path is what heightens her passion for wildlife photography.

Hey everyone just wanted to quickly jump on and explain for lack of posts in recent months. We have had a lot going on within our family. As many know my favorite road trip buddy is my son who is non verbal and has profound autism. Back in May he started having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy. We have been on a journey with this with medical appointments and testing that has taken up a lot of time. He was put on medication and since being on this he has not had a seizure since. Which is great news. He had a MRi done and results came back this week showing nothing found, which is also great to hear.

Now onto myself during this time I also started having issues in the left hand side of my stomach. I had booked a doctors appointment which I had to wait for a month to see a doctor. But a few weeks back the issue started getting worse so I went to the ER. To find out I was quite sick and I was air med vac from the ER in Fairbanks to Providence in Anchorage. It was found I had severe diverculitis with perforation and I had a 7cm abscess. I spent five days in hospital and then was released to the Fisher House on JBER in Anchorage for another five days to recuperate and had a drain in place to suck out all the yucky stuff. I have been home a couple of weeks now recuperating as I still have a lot of inflammation. I am on a little bit of a health journey with having more testing to see what is fully going on. I have suffered with Crohn’s disease also since 2015. But it looks like I possibly may have surgery in the future to remove part of my colon.

So hence the reason I have hardly got out with my camera the last few months. One with not wishing to go too far with my son with not knowing if a seizure would occur. Then with my own health issues. But I’m hoping to back on track with health by next summer. So may not be many posts for the foreseeable future.

But I hope all of you are doing well and have enjoyed a great summer. We have quickly gone onto fall here but have had lots of rain. Winter is just around the corner for us here in Alaska. Thought I would share a throwback shot of a handsome bull moose I got a few years back. The big boys are in full rutting mode here now.
