"The Gloves Say It All" by Bill Kesler Photography

Found on the Conductor’s desk inside a Union Pacific locomotive, a General Electric diesel electric C44ACCTE . . . The gloves say it all.

I couldn’t help but wonder what the story was and why the two-way radio mic was laying on the gloves?

The gloves say it all.

A little information about those gloves. Maybe the coolest safety gloves on the railroad. You can see the soft leather protecting the palm area of the hand along with full coverage of the thumb and full coverage for the finger tips, while the backside is constructed of high visibility safety orange perforated fabric. The perforated fabric allows the glove to have fresh cool air circulated on the inside, making an overall design that meets the safety requirements and keeps the hands from overheating in the summer months. Protecting the knuckle area on the backside of the glove is a high visibility reflective yellow vinyl material.

The gloves say it all.

This storm was moving away from me, and the near full moon was off to the right providing wonderful light on the upper level clouds, while the lightning was putting on a show in the lower level.

Pretty cool how the storm is in a constant state-of-change while the stars above just sit back and watched. I made this photograph about 10 miles north of Wallace, Nebraska a little before midnight on the 9th of April, 2017.

The length of the long exposure was 20 seconds, and you can see the parts of the clouds that have a "flowing" look to them, confirming that it was constantly changing.

Can you feel the stillness? Can you feel the calmness? You can if you've ever been to a small body of water and the wind was blowing so gentle that it didn't disturb the surface of the water. That's what I had one August morning at Jeffrey Reservoir south of Brady, Nebraska.

Even though the wind wasn't disturbing the surface of the water, the fish were constantly coming to the surface feeding on insects, resulting in concentric ripples from where they breached the surface. I knew I had an opportunity to get the mirror-like reflection and make an interesting work-of-art - but the fish kept coming to the surface. I elected to take numerous exposures and blend them in the post-processing. After many attempts at the blending process, I narrowed the number of exposures down to eleven (11) and I achieved what I was after.

An artistic effect has been added to give a feel of texture and dimension, and featured in "The Slat Collection" by Bill Kesler Photography.
