Why do a First Look?

You actually get to have intimate time on your wedding day with your man. Most brides don’t realize that when you come
down the aisle and totally SHOCK him with your gorgeous-ness... he can’t even tell you how amazing you look. He can’t
touch you, embrace you or even SPEAK to you. You have to wait until 30 minutes later when the ceremony is over for him to react and tell you how amazing you look. And after 30 minutes of the ceremony, the reaction isn’t the same as the initial first glance.

Matt and Morgan were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Photography is not permitted in the temple, so I arrived 30 minutes after the Sealing Session and waited for their grand exit. Sealing Sessions are never consistent in length. I’ve had couples exit the temple within 20 minutes of their Sealing, and some not for 1.5 hrs. I believe the average of what I see is the couple coming out 1 hr after the Sealing, so I try to split the difference. (I tell my couples prior not to exit until the specific time I will be there, just in case.) While I was waiting, I happened to meet one of the groomsmen who told me an incredible tale from the Bachelor Party. Catch the crazy tale on the blog!

Today marks mine and Jake's 8 year Anniversary!

I will admit that going into marriage, I had an idealized version of how it should be. Growing up with Disney Princesses, love song after love song on the radio and epic Rom Coms gave me some... what we'll call unrealistic expectations.

But time has taught me better. Love isn't about heroic saves. It isn't about grand romantic gestures. It isn't all dancing in the moonlight and making out in the back of his car.

Real love is choosing each other every day. It's choosing to see each other for your good days and supporting through the bad. It's about giving each other space to be themselves and finding things you enjoy together. Real love is sharing a bowl of popcorn on the couch watching Brooklyn 99 after the kids have gone to bed. It's about balancing the challenges of life together.

There are so many times that I've thought, "This is it. This is when he's had enough and he's going to leave." But he never has. He's chosen me every day and I am so grateful for it. He's my one and only for ever and ever. Happy Anniversary Jake. I love you. I will always choose you.
