Both times I've photographed Landry and his family, he was on the move: climbing on trees, jumping off picnic tables, and rolling around with his little brother and sister. He's facing a difficult recovery from a UTV accident and spinal cord injury, and his mom is off work while she's with him at the rehab hospital in Colorado. Landry is starting his senior year this fall at Johnston High School (he's doing classes remotely while in rehab). If you're inclined to support them, I'd be grateful. "We haven't had family photos since he was born. I don't know how he's going to do."

Mom told me this before we even started, and I got it immediately—as a mom of a neurodivergent kiddo myself, I know the tightrope walk that a brand-new experience (like a camera in your face) can be for kids on the spectrum.

So we meet them where they are. Move quickly. Take breaks. Find the quiet corner if we need it. Keep everyone feeling safe.

This little guy's patience ran out fast. Didn't matter. We still walked away with wall-worthy photos of the whole family.

If photos make you anxious—for your kid, for yourself, for the whole chaotic crew—I want you to hear this: we can make it work. Every family gets to have gorgeous, frame-worthy photos. Yours included.

When it's a family photo session in the city and they thoroughly understand the assignment? Well, that's when the magic happens. Bonus awesomeness: getting to photograph your bestie who's also your neighbor and your weekday-6am-gym-wife. And I'm awfully fond of the whole rest of the family, too! 😍

Anna, Liberty High School Class of '27 (part two)!
