I went out to photograph the aurora last night but it was kind of a bust so I got the Milky Way instead. It was pretty cool since the Milky Way core was right over the barn. I used to do a lot more night shooting when I was on Cape Cod but since I’ve been In Jackson I’ve not done any, really. The reason being mostly because I generally like to shoot by myself, which is fine on The Cape. However, in Jackson there are many, many more critters that I simply don’t want to bump into at night and it’s super dark here!🫎🐻🦬🐺

Autumn in The Tetons is some kind of spectacular 🍁This was first light at Oxbow Bend, 9/30/24. The River you see is the Snake River and the mountain rage is of course, The Teton Range. Mt. Moran is largest peak in the image which at 12,610 ft is the 4th tallest in the range. It is named after the American western frontier artist, Thomas Moran. Just a few minutes after the sun came up I heard a bull elk bugling and was able to locate and photograph him bathed in the early morning light (I posted the elk image yesterday).

This majestic Bull Elk was calling for his harem at first light. What an amazing sound! The bugle is a primal and almost eerie, high-pitched scream followed by a series of grunts. A bugle is a complex form of communication mostly used during rutting season as a mating call, but it is also a display of dominance. Bulls will often bugle to establish territory and ward off potential competitors. In addition to its role in mating and dominance displays, the bugle serves as a beacon, helping lost or separated elk reunite with their group.
