There's no question that women have made great strides in the business world. But despite all of our progress, there's still a lot of room for improvement. One way to help close the gap is by ensuring that women have access to mentors who can provide guidance, support, and advice.
But finding a mentor can be difficult, especially for women who are just starting out in their careers. That's why it's so important for women to support each other and create mentorship opportunities for one another. By helping each other succeed, we can help close the gender gap in the business world and create a more level playing field for everyone.
A year ago I decided to take the leap and not only get a mentor that I've admired and respected for so long but to go with a Black woman. My mentor is not only a business leader, she's also been through all sorts of challenges as a Black woman in a traditionally white male-dominated industry. And she's been an incredible source of support and inspiration whenever I've needed it. In addition to Dr. T, I'm also being coached by and who are also Black women making waves in the photography industry.
Not too long ago I heard about We Should All Be Millionaires by on a photography podcast and I burned right through the audiobook and then listened to it again. It made me realize that I have really been selling myself short. I used to think I was OK with being comfortable but now? Eff that noise, I'm trying to touch a mil.
So if you have the opportunity to mentor another woman, or be mentored by one, don't hesitate to take it. It might just be the best career move you ever make.
