A Message to My Clients & Community
I want to take a moment to address some recent concerns that have been publicly shared regarding my photography business.
First, I want to take accountability. This year, I allowed other areas of my life to take priority over my business at times, and I recognize that doing so affected my communication and turnaround times. I am currently in school, working, and trying to balance multiple responsibilities, and I have made the decision to intentionally slow down the pace of my photography business so that I can give my clients the time, attention, and experience they deserve.
That is not an excuse.
Last year was an incredibly difficult year for me personally, and it took a toll on me in ways that I don’t think were always visible from the outside. Coming into this year, I was still trying to find my footing while navigating major changes in my personal life, school, work, and my business. There were moments where I simply did not handle everything as well as I should have, and I take responsibility for that.
I understand that my clients should not have to carry the weight of what I may have been experiencing personally. When someone books me, they are trusting me with memories that cannot be recreated. They deserve communication, transparency, and for the expectations I set to be followed through on.
I also want to be transparent that while there have been circumstances that contributed to delays, I understand that explanations do not change the experience a client has when they are waiting for something that is incredibly important to them. I can acknowledge the reasons something happened while still taking responsibility for how it affected someone else.
I am proud of the work I create, and I am grateful for every person who has trusted me to document their wedding, family, graduation, or other meaningful moments. I also know that beautiful photographs are only one part of the experience. The communication and service surrounding them matter just as much.
Because of this, I am making changes within my business. I am slowing down my bookings, being more intentional about the number of clients I take on, setting more realistic turnaround expectations, and creating better systems for communication and delivery. I would rather serve fewer clients exceptionally well than continue taking on more than I realistically have the capacity for.
I will not share private client conversations or personal circumstances publicly in an attempt to defend myself. I believe those things deserve to remain private. I simply want to acknowledge where I fell short, learn from it, and do better moving forward.
To my current and future clients: thank you for your patience, your grace, and your trust. I don’t expect anyone to overlook where I could have done better. I only hope that my actions moving forward can show the growth that I am committed to making.
Kourtney Peel Photography is something I care deeply about, and I am not walking away from it. I am simply learning how to build a business that is sustainable for me while still giving my clients the experience they deserve.
