Vintage truck, a red barn, fall vibes, and a golden hour that understood the assignment. 🍂✨

Taylor's senior session was SO much fun!

We kicked things off with all the cozy fall feels. Think sweaters, cowboy boots, pumpkins, and a vintage truck that made the perfect backdrop.

Then we switched things up with some U-High spirit wear and the prettiest golden-hour light to wrap up her session.

Two completely different looks, one gorgeous evening, and so many photos I can't wait to share!

The project I didn't know would affect me so deeply. ❤️

6 people. 6 childhood treasures. Countless memories.

What started as a simple idea to photograph adults with something they've held onto since childhood turned into something so much more.

Behind every well-loved stuffed animal and childhood toy was a story. Stories of comfort, love, loss, and memories that have stayed with these individuals for decades.

I knew these photographs would be meaningful to the people in them. What I didn't anticipate was how meaningful the experience would be for me, too.

I'm so grateful for this work I get to do. For the stories people trust me with, the connections made, and the opportunity to preserve little pieces of people's lives through photographs.

Sometimes it's about so much more than taking a pretty picture. ❤️

Somewhere inside each of us is the child we once were. The one who found comfort in a favorite stuffed animal, who carried it everywhere, who couldn't imagine a day without it. ❤️

And somewhere along the way, we grew up.

Life happened. We moved, made memories, experienced love and loss, and became people our younger selves could have only imagined.

But some things stayed with us.

Recently, I photographed six adults with treasured pieces of their childhood. Stuffed animals and dinosaurs that survived decades of moves, growing up, and all the changes life brought their way.

Some were worn thin. Some had been lovingly repaired. Others carried memories of people who are no longer here.

And yet, here they were, still being held close after all these years.

I can't help but wonder what our younger selves would think if they could see us now, holding those same childhood treasures.

Maybe they'd be surprised by the people we've become. Maybe they'd have a thousand questions.

But I hope they'd feel reassured knowing that we made it this far. That we're still finding our way. That we're okay.

And that we never completely forgot the little person we used to be. ❤️

Am I feeling a bit sad all the summer florals are gone? Yes.

But ... I'm also really loving the October sky and hints of red, orange, and yellow on the trees, along with crisp mornings. There's something really nostalgic about this time of year for me.

About tonight...

I have a special project I’m working on. More to come on that later. 🫶🏻

I put out a model call on my personal page and was overwhelmed by the interest. Tonight, six people showed up. Five I knew personally. One I met for the very first time.

I loved hearing the stories behind why each person was there. And at the end of the evening, I had the opportunity to capture something extra special. A moment that left two strangers changed, connected and bonded by something neither of us expected.

Grief is hard.

It comes in waves. It consumes us. It is unapologetic. And just when it starts to taper, when the weight feels a little easier to carry, it shows up again to whisper, “I’m still here.”

And sometimes, it gives you permission to hug a complete stranger.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel about the work I get to do.

Yes, a lot of it is fun and goofy. We laugh. We make jokes. We worry about what to do with our hands.

But the heart of this work? It’s so much deeper than we realize in the moment.

Sometimes it isn’t until the days become years and the years become decades that we understand what a gallery, a portrait, or even one single image can mean to us.

To everyone who showed interest in this project, thank you.

And to the six people who showed up tonight, willing to be vulnerable and let their inner child be seen, I am forever grateful to you.

Hi! Hello! Bonjour! Salut! Hola! Good day! 👋

I'm Liz, owner and creative behind the lens of Liz Walsh Photography.

I've officially been in business for more than five years, but I've had a camera in my hands for decades. Photography has been part of my story for a long, long time.

I love living, working, and raising my family here in Central Illinois, although a little piece of me will always miss the western suburbs of Chicago where I was born and raised.

Before photography became my career, I was an educator, a stay-at-home mom, and a doula. Basically, I've spent most of my adult life working with people, taking care of people, and figuring out how to make people feel comfortable. Turns out, that's a pretty useful skill when you're pointing a camera at someone. 😂

These days, you'll usually find me photographing high school seniors, families, newborns, brands, and businesses. And if being in front of a camera makes you feel awkward? You're exactly my kind of person.

You don't need to know how to pose.
You don't need to know what to do with your hands.
And you definitely don't need to show up knowing how to "work the camera."

That's my job.

I'm a little dorky, pretty down-to-earth, and far more interested in capturing *you* than making everything look perfectly posed.
