It’s not often we get treated to a light show from aurora borealis in VA. The fact that we were able to witness that with the Milky Way moving through the sky is a whole different level of mind blowing for us Milky Way chasers.
Massive shout out to for scoping this spot out. We absolutely scored last night being able to capture two of nature’s coolest shows in one frame with some amazing reflections off the water.
I was hoping to make this video longer, but I’m still trying to figure the video thing out. Definitely not my forte. Please send useful tutorials. Always learning and trying not to huck computer components out the window. More to come from this awesome night!

Been doodling a bit recently and put together this logo for work. I see the awesome work friends like and do and it has made me want to scratch my art itch again. I’m certainly no professional graphic designer or artist, but this was always an outlet for me when I was younger and it’s cool to tap into it again digitally. Especially when you have tools like Procreate and knowledge bases like YouTube university.
I’d always start something, get frustrated it wasn’t exactly what I wanted, and bail on it. With a tablet, it’s easier to overcome that hump and push through. Over time it has become clear to me that you gotta get the reps in, good or bad, to improve. The bad ones just help you course correct. This goes with anything: drawing, lifting weights, cooking, shooting, anything.
It’s loosely based on a boat I lovingly refer to as the “Spinal Rearrangement Sled.” I’ve gotten thrashed around in one of these and it gave me a new found level of respect for the badass guys running in these boats.
Big thanks to for making this design go from a screen to slaps! Hopefully going to get this on some shirts and patches too.

Another snow day for HRVA! Shot down to the VB oceanfront this morning and almost got blown off the beach along with much of the snow. Neptune didn’t seem to mind the low 20’s temp and 20+ mph winds as he keeps a watchful eye over our beach.

Just wanted to document that I still do dust off the camera on occasion these days. As usual, we didn’t get the blizzard the weather folks exaggerated about, but snow on the beach is always kind of cool to see.
Always fun chasing weather with . Hoping we get some more Milky Way trips in this year to keep this page fresh!

Met up with local blade smith the other day and got a peek into the world of knife and hatchet fabrication. Many of the folks in this industry post the forging and grinding processes on their socials, but that’s not all there is to it. There’s a ton of not so glamorous work like cutting out scales, epoxying, making kydex, etc that go into the finished products. I caught T on one of those days. It’s good to see that even the jobs we all see as being cool have their mundane qualities too. Not only does he make badass tools for trades (some of those hatchets are going south of the border to a group that fights human trafficking 💪🏼), he’s active duty and does some pretty badass work for our country. Show this man some love and snag one of his Typhoons or even just give a follow to see what he’s making for the heavy hitters out there. He’s god some awesome pieces in the works, so hoping to snag some shots of finished pieces in the near future.

I scooped up the Deadrise wallet and a matching 22mm leather strap from recently and finally snapped a few quick pics of them to document where they started. These are natural leather which will eventually patina to a rich, dark brown once they see some action. The last pic shows what happens after the leather gets enough love: the strap on the left from (also a great strap!) started out the same color as the one on the right.
So far, I’m definitely impressed with the quality and workmanship of the wallet and strap and I can see a belt getting added to the collection in the near future…They’re already getting darker by the day, so more progress pics to come.
The wallet is named after the Ches Bay Deadrise (fishing and crabbing workboat for those not in the know). Like the boat, it is no frills and functional, but also meant to take a beating. It’s much nicer not toting the 3” thick dad wallet around these days and I can even keep some business cards handily stashed in there.
products are handmade on the eastern shore of VA. Check out his page for all the awesome goodies. Father’s Day is coming up, so hook dad up with some new gear!

First swing at doing some product photography. Nothing too fancy, just a little lay flat of some EDC things. I had a long post typed up and it got Zucked up, so now an attempt with the abbreviated version.
used to do a ton of awesome product photos which have inspired my interest in it, especially since I’m not leaving the house much these days. These are all things I use fairly regularly to daily in frequency. No paid advertisements here, just some good stuff from solid companies, many of which are veteran/active duty owned.
: killer graphic design/branding and an all around awesome human and friend.
: awesome custom handmade leather patches and other odd and ends for your business or personal ventures.
: beautiful handmade blades that are just as much art as they are functional.
: awesome blades with some of the coolest scales you can find. Their Cav Jr and Disaster Jr are usually my EDCs.
: killer leather watch bands that take a beating and look great doing it. instruments : great timepieces that are backed by unparalleled customer service.

Life has been insanely hectic since last summer and I finally forced myself to dedicate a whopping 5 minutes to set up a little shoot for this knife. Tuna may not be the most chef’s knife protein around, but those steaks came out great and it was tough not to house them down before I got some pics.
I contacted early last year to see if he could put together a set of groomsmen gifts for me. I wanted to get them something they could use daily and something that was made by a local, small business. Everyone on my side of the aisle was foodies and knew their way around a kitchen, so a chef’s knife was an easy choice. I love Damascus blades and Blake said he could hook me up with them. He worked with me throughout the process to make my ideas come to fruition and put some awesome kitchen tools in our hands. He suggested doing a challa cactus handle which would’ve been awesome, but couldn’t source it, so we ended up going with the ironwood burl and resin. The blue was the wedding color and I love the pearlescent touch that was added in there. Unfortunately, the other three went their separate ways, but I put in some pics that he sent during the fabrication process of all of them.
You can find his blades on his IG page , at , and he’s done collabs with some other local folks like , who does awesome leather patches and other odds and ends.
