Auto.Abstract

Auto.Abstract My name is Karlo Morcilla. I created Auto.Abstract to represent my love for cars and passion for photography. When passion is involved, Quality is achieved.

I am here to capture beautifully built cars and share the stories of the people I meet. Year after year I've lived the same life, no progress, made no changes, and no path to my future but I have always been into cars from building and racing them. Until about 4 years ago in 2013 when I met one of my mentors whom I worked for, for about 2 years. I learned what kind of person I needed to be in orde

r for me to be the person I want to become. About the beginning of 2015 I met my second mentor, I worked with him for over a year. What I learned is what allowed me to pursue my vision. In the process of all that, I've found my passion for photography and have been practicing it everyday and I am using that skill to create content for Auto.Abstract. Through out those 4 years, I've learned so much about myself and what it takes to create my vision. I'll tell you right now, it was not an easy 3-4 years. Answers weren't handed to me, I had to put in the time, energy, and effort to acquire what I know now. It was nothing close to a walk in the park. I've made many mistakes but with mistakes and direction from my mentors, comes permanent fixes and that is extremely valuable for my future. Everyday I am still learning and growing. Auto.Abstract is a brand I've created to express my thoughts, ideas, and vision. Through creativity - story telling, design, and visual content. My goal is to share stories of inspirational people who I met and will meet throughout my life while pursuing my vision. This is just the cover page of my life story, with patience and persistence my story will unfold. The future is untold but what I do today will shape who I will be at the end of my story. Sunday, May 28th.

I had a photoshoot with my buddy Kyle and his imported right hand drive CRX.

We met through a group of friends, we are all in a Facebook group page and from there Kyle and I have been friends.

I decided I wanted to shoot his car not because it's one of my favorite cars when I was younger but also because I wanted to get to know him a little more as a person and see what he's all about.

We talked for some time before I started shooting his car. There's a back story as to why he picked up this Crx. Which started with a Crz, having owned the Crz and enjoyed it - he ended up getting rid of it for personal reasons. A Legit right hand drive Crx came up for sale and he was quick to purchase it, considering that not many people own one and since he's had a newer generation model, he wanted to go for the old school Crx. Kyle has now owned the car for about 2 years, the Crx being stock when he initially purchased it - he's since then added many aftermarket performance parts to fit his liking. He has also just recently tracked the Crx at Streets of Willow at Willow Springs International Raceway. It's nice to see someone who invested a lot into their project and then go out and beat it up, risking damage but in the end the experience is worth.

All in all, the evening went well. I can say I got to know Kyle a little better and now we share some stories together. :]

A few days before the shoot I drove around for about an hour looking for a location, Initially I had a spot already in mind but I decided to check out other areas just in case I saw something I liked and that's when I found this location. It is a secluded road in Eastvale, normally a busy road but after some construction the past year, this road is now hardly used. It's a bit odd and creepy because there were dead sheep carcasses and used condoms, probably one of the more sketchy locations I've picked out but the scenery was beautiful and calming despite the dead sheep and bones scattered around the area. We call this road, dead sheep road. lol

Anyways, hope you guys like the images I've created of his Crx.

I met up with my buddy Derek on Sunday, May 21st.

We've been friends now for over 7-8+ years or so. I remember we used to hang out to work on cars and just bu****it and have fun. As we grew older, we started to hang out less but still kept in touch through out the times. It was a great feeling being able to spend a few hours together catching up and being able to shoot his car.

I chose Azusa Canyons as the location of the shoot because I felt that's where his FC needed to be, I remember telling him "GMR is where I can see your car" aside from that, we used to drive up to GMR and cruise way back, so it was a great opportunity to drive up and chill like we used to.

Derek has had his FC for about 10 years now, gone through a lot with it, from motor issues and all the struggles a person would go through building a project car. Just recently he put in a freshly built engine (rotary) which now only has about 400 miles, still in the break in period. I'm excited to see his car at it's full potential and on the track, which his ultimate goal is to race his car on a road course and just have fun with it.

His FC has a plethora of custom and aftermarket parts making his car unique. I'm not one to list parts and upgrades, that's the owners choice of wanting to let people know what they've done. I'm here to show you the current look of the car, if you would like to know what's done to it - you can ask for yourself here! :]

This is a compilation of photos that I have taken from the past 2+ years to show the progress I have made in automotive photography. In chronoligical order.

Starting in Feb. 2015 ending to my most current photoshoot in May 2017. These photos have been shot with the same Camera Body (Canon 6D and various lenses).

The equipment has not changed but what did change is my understanding of photography, editing techniques, compositional techniques, and just training my eye to see things I didn't used to see.

From this whole process I've learned the time of day I like to shoot, angles of lighting, shadows, processing, planning, composition, and so much more. I am still learning and progressing, it is a never ending process (which I love because I am constantly learning).

I wanted to show you guys that photography doesn't come down to the equipment you own, it comes down to the amount of knowledge and experience you have doing it. I like to compare it to a painter and his brush. A camera is just a tool - just like a brush is to a painter.

All I can say is if you want to get better, practice practice practice - as with anything else in life.

Yesterday I met up with Kien to shoot his NSX and newly acquired right hand drive Rx7. It was definitely a sight to see and capture, it's been awhile since I've done any automotive photography so doing this photoshoot really brought back the excitement I've been needing. I am putting more energy and focus back into building this brand that I started back in November and put away for months. Now it's time to get it going again! :]

Hello, thanks for checking my page out!

My name is Karlo Morcilla, I've created auto.abstract to express my thoughts and ideas through photography and words.

A car has a direct relation with who a person is and sometimes what they do. I am here to share the story behind these cars.

Photography is something I truly enjoy.
Auto.Abstract allows me to express it.

What's Quality over Quantity?
Having the best or perceived best of something rather than a lot of cheap or less valuable versions. It also applies to relationships, friendships and life - why live 150 years if the life lived is of poor enjoyment and no substance.

My goal is to share stories of inspirational people I've met and will meet throughout my time and hopefully it will inspire you to chase your dreams.
