What makes your soul sing?

When I first spoke to this upcoming Cal Poly graduate on the phone I asked if he had any thoughts about what he would like for his grad portraits.

Right away we started chatting about his vision for these to be in a wooded, forested area, maybe some water, a bridge etc.

He wanted them to be moody of sorts. Very contemplative and deep.

We discussed a few ideas then I mentioned Bishop’s Peak. The lower parts of this trail are laden with oaks that wind in and out, large boulders, and a large dash of mystery.

We found our spot. I directed Nicholas through lots of poses. The one shown here I had in mind, like the viewer is getting a glimpse of this person moving into their next phase, I wanted movement with the grad gown. He pulled it off perfectly.

I feel portraits that portray your unique makeup will live in your heart forever.

No one talks about the real reason they don’t want senior pics.

It’s an unknown experience. I hear comments often “why do I need those?”

Or because mom is making you do it you comply, or you don’t.

Here are the top responses during the reveal I receive from students who do not like having their pictures taken.

“That’s me?” “I never like photos of me, I love these.” “I was nervous to see my photos, but these are incredible.”

It’s all in the slowing down. I take time to get to know YOU. What’s your vibe, style, personality.

Then, we create your custom session experience together!

Hint: Summer is the best time to have your senior portraits taken, before school starts and you’re super busy.

What can a real live photographer do for your headshot that AI can’t, and does it matter?

You decide.

As your headshot photographer I will:
- ask you about the industry you work in
- brainstorm looks that will help you stand out
- coach you and pose you throughout the session
- figure out your best side, highlight that side of you
- tell you lame jokes to help you relax and be authentic
- hand select all the best images of you
- edit each image individually to enhance you but not make you fake

My question to you is how much is the first impression of you worth?

Do you really want to leave it up to AI and potentially look like everyone else?

AI is incredible for so many things. But I would say to skip it for your headshots and get an authentic version of you to share with the world.

Right now senior portraits feel like another “to do” on your list.

Like you can put it off until you’re ready.

When actually, this is THE part of your senior year that will last.

That you will look back on, over and over.

So, I suggest getting started on your senior portrait plan. So you don’t have to rush. You can pick your favorite photographer before they are all booked up.

Pick out the exact outfits with no pressure. Get your haircut etc.

My advice? Let’s chat. I’d like to hear your ideas and if you aren’t sure what you want. That’s normal! I have a million ideas and I am inspired by YOU.
