🌧️ A little rain possible tonight!

A weak, moisture-starved cold front will drop south through the area this evening into the overnight hours, bringing a narrow band of weakening showers.

Central NY has the better chance of picking up some light rain, with amounts generally less than a tenth of an inch. Showers will continue to fade as they head into the Southern Tier, so some spots may see little more than a sprinkle—or stay dry altogether.

Unfortunately, this won’t bring much relief from our dry stretch!

🕰️🦌 The clocks fall back. The wildlife doesn’t!

We turn the clocks BACK one hour this Sunday, November 1st, at 2 AM. That means an earlier sunset—and more of us making the drive home in the dark.

With deer breeding season underway, raccoons searching for food, and young foxes finding territory of their own, keep an extra eye on the roads across the 607. 🍂

Slow down, scan the road edges, and remember: if one deer crosses, others may follow. If an animal suddenly enters your lane, brake safely and avoid swerving.

An extra hour of sleep is nice. An unexpected wildlife encounter on the drive home? Not so much!

Temperatures are expected to run 15°+ above average today across much of the 607, with highs reaching the upper 60s to low 70s! Pretty impressive warmth with November just a few days away. 🍂

🎃 Halloween high temperatures are trending a bit cooler than in my previous post, with most of our area now looking at highs in the upper 50s to around 60°. 👻

There’s been a ton of chatter on social media about the polar vortex and a Sudden Stratospheric Warming event (SSW), so I put together this graphic to help explain what it means and how it can influence our weather. 🌎❄️

An SSW happens high above the Arctic, where temperatures rise rapidly and the winds surrounding the polar vortex weaken or, in a major event, reverse direction. That disruption can eventually influence the jet stream and change where cold air travels.

But an SSW does NOT automatically mean a big snowstorm or nonstop Arctic cold here in New York. Any effects can take a few weeks to develop, and some events have little influence on our weather. Where the cold settles—and whether moisture and storm tracks line up—makes all the difference.

It’s one piece of the bigger weather puzzle and something worth watching as the pattern evolves. If you’ve followed 607 Weather for any length of time, you know the deal: patterns and trends, not hype!

🌡️ Record Warmth Potential On Thursday

Late October is bringing a little taste of spring! Temperatures Thursday could climb into the upper 60s to mid-70s across the area.

The record high at the Binghamton Airport is 70°, set back in 1982. With a forecast high near 71°, that record could be tied or broken!
