After the death of 2-year-old Dane Paulsen, whose body was recovered from the Siletz River in March 2025, the family received more than $30,000 in donations through GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses and time away from work. An Amazon wish list was also created, allowing supporters to provide toys and household items for the family.

Chamet Jackson appeared in court today in connection with a family dispute involving her partner, Aaron Paulsen, 41. Paulsen and Jackson, 36, were charged with third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and reckless endangering another person following an altercation involving Jackson’s brother, Daniel.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel, who was also charged with fourth-degree assault, initiated the confrontation at a residence in the 21000 block of Siletz River Highway and injured his sister. Investigators said Paulsen and Jackson also caused injuries to Daniel during the incident.

Following today’s court appearance, a new GoFundMe campaign was launched on Jackson’s behalf by Noria Allen. The fundraiser states:

“As our community continues to rally around the family of little Dane, many people have asked how they can help. This has been an unimaginable loss, and the family is now facing more burdens while they work through the legal, emotional, and practical realities that follow a tragedy of this nature.

In addition to the deep grief they are carrying, the family must now navigate important legal processes to ensure that their rights are protected and that they receive fair and compassionate treatment.”

Separately, on Oct. 16, 2025, Aaron Paulsen was charged with second-degree child neglect, months after Dane’s body was discovered in the Siletz River. According to court records, Paulsen is scheduled for a motion hearing on June 22, with a trial currently set for July 22.

Pacific City Dory Days 2026 returns July 17–19 as one of Oregon’s most cherished coastal traditions, celebrating the historic flat-bottom dory fishing fleet and the community built around it. The festival honors generations of local fishermen who continue to launch their boats directly through the Pacific surf, a demanding and iconic practice that remains central to the town’s identity.

Held throughout Pacific City, with many activities centered around the Kiawanda Community Center, the weekend brings together residents and visitors for a full celebration of coastal heritage. One of the main highlights is the dory fleet surf launch, where experienced captains guide their flat-bottom boats through breaking waves in a display of skill passed down through families.

The event also features a beloved grand parade that travels from the Bob Straub State Park boat ramp along Brooten Road toward the heart of town, showcasing decorated dories, community groups, and local organizations. Food plays a central role as well, with a classic fish fry serving freshly prepared dory fish and chips that reflect the area’s fishing traditions.

Throughout the weekend, an artisan fair at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Brooten Road offers handmade crafts, artwork, and local goods, running Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors can also explore the “Launching Through the Surf” heritage exhibit, which tells the story of Pacific City’s dorymen and the long history of fishing from the surf.

Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest Returns June 19–21, 2026

One of Oregon’s most beloved traditions returns to the coast June 19–21, 2026, as the Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest celebrates more than six decades of creativity and community spirit.

Established in 1964, the event was born in the aftermath of the devastating Good Friday Earthquake and tsunami, which damaged the Elk Creek Bridge and impacted the Cannon Beach area. Four local residents organized the Sandcastle Contest to bring the community together, boost morale, and encourage visitors to return.

Today, the Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest is recognized as Oregon’s oldest and first sandcastle competition. The annual event attracts thousands of visitors who gather to watch impressive sand creations and enjoy a weekend of fun along the scenic Oregon Coast.

A huge shout out to everyone who has donated, liked and shared the story about Darryl and Reyna and helping spread the word to help these folks out. Reyna is a victim of racial profiling, as Darryl had the courage to stand up to an armed man to defend her. The investigation is still ongoing and no official statements by OSP or LCSO. Once it’s released I’ll post an update. Again you guys are the best. 🙏🏻 ⬇️

Yesterday a gray whale breached in Depoe Bay in front of onlookers and giving them a great show. Video posted on TikTok by using his phones extension telescope. Go give him a follow. He does a lot of live videos along the coast recording whales and seals.

Quick Action Helps Prevent Fire From Reaching Homes in Pacific City

A potentially dangerous fire sparked by downed power lines was quickly contained Sunday afternoon in Pacific City thanks to the efforts of firefighters and a nearby resident.

At approximately 4:09 p.m., crews with the Nestucca Rural Fire Protection District responded to the intersection of Ella Avenue and Ray Drive for reports of downed power lines, a grass fire, and a tree fire threatening a four-unit residential building.

Firefighters were able to stop the flames before they reached the structure, extinguish the tree fire, and contain the grass fire. Crews remained on scene conducting mop-up operations and checking for any hot spots.

Fire officials credited a local resident, Mr. Williams, for helping slow the fire’s spread before crews arrived by using a garden hose. While officials stress that residents should never approach or attempt to fight fires involving downed power lines, they said his quick actions may have helped prevent damage to the nearby homes.

Several agencies assisted during the response, including Tillamook Fire District, North Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Sandlake Sheriff Patrol, CERT volunteers, and Tillamook PUD.

Officials remind the public to stay well away from downed power lines and immediately call 911, as all downed lines should be considered energized and dangerous.

18-Year-Old Newport Man Dies in Siletz River Drowning

A weekend swim in the Siletz River turned tragic Saturday after an 18-year-old Newport man was reported missing in a remote area near Logsden.

Emergency crews were called to the Siletz River Gorge on the evening of June 13 after witnesses reported that a young man had jumped from rocks into the river and began struggling in the water. Bystanders attempted to help but were unable to reach him.

Search efforts continued into the night as first responders worked in the difficult river terrain. Rescue personnel later located the swimmer beneath the water near where he was last seen.

Shortly after midnight, crews recovered the body of Dallas Davis, 18, of Newport.

The incident is being investigated as an accidental drowning. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Siletz Fire Department, the Lane County Search and Rescue Dive Team, and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officials remind visitors that rivers can be deceptively dangerous, with strong currents, cold water, and underwater hazards that can quickly create life threatening situations.
