Been messing around with trichromatic scanning, and finally built myself a photoshop plugin so my workflow doesn’t make me want to quit halfway through.

The scanning setup is pretty simple:
fuji gfx 100ii
pentax 67 bellows
80mm rodenstock apo-n enlarging lens
Film holder by .co
A little rgb light designed by

The process is basically capturing three exposures of the same negative- red, green, and blue. Then export everything into one folder as linear tiffs

Then, i run it through a photoshop plugin i built that automatically detects each set, combines them into a color image, and moves on to the next one. Options for automatically adding relevant adjustment layers such as hue/sat, curves, levels, color balance, and transform tools, all from the plugin that can be batch applied.

No manual stacking, no renaming, no wasting time. It still feels a little unreal seeing it come together this clean.

If you’re into this kind of process and want to try it, let me know 🎞️🤙

Haven’t really found any software that nails combining red, green, and blue color negative scans into proper trichromatic images, so… I’m just building my own.

When you stack the three monochrome exposures into one, the color you get is insane. Like actually beautiful and way more accurate than anything else I’ve tried. Photoshop can technically do it, but the workflow is kinda clunky and just not it.

So far the tests have been kind of wild, in the best way. I’m honestly hyped to finish this and start using it for real. I’ll still run most scans through Capture One or FilmLab like usual, but this is gonna be the special sauce.

Now I just need a monochrome camera to really go all in 🤓

My process for scanning film using an RGB light source.

I use a Fujifilm GFX100 II medium format digital camera paired with a Schneider 80mm enlarging lens on Pentax bellows, a Valoi film holder, and an RGB light source from cutenewdesign. Everything is captured directly into Capture One.

Before scanning, I meter off the film border and balance the red, green, and blue channels until they’re roughly equal. That gives me a neutral baseline before the frame is even captured.

From there it’s a simple process. I flip the negative, invert the RGB curve, run auto levels, and add a slight luma curve to dial in the contrast.

Using an RGB light produces a much more balanced starting point compared to when I used the CS-Lite, which is essentially white light. The colors come through noticeably more natural, and my conversions in Capture One satisfy me more than when I was inverting the scans using Negative Lab Pro.

Both files are still raw, so there’s plenty of flexibility, but starting with cleaner color makes the whole process easier. These are rough examples to give you a quick look into the process and results.

Didn’t think my film scans could get better… but the tests with this RGB light are looking insane. 🎞️

Instead of scanning with standard white light, this lets me control the red, green, and blue channels independently. That means I can tune the light to the negative itself and pull much cleaner color data right from the start.

Less fighting the scan later. Way more accurate color.

Film nerd upgrade but the difference is kind of wild.

I’m a hybrid shooter on the wedding day slinging digital in one hand and a film camera in the other. Here’s a mix of medium format and 35mm from this beautiful day.

You get your full day covered with the precision of digital and those special moments slowed down on film.

It is always a joy watching couples look back and see their day in both formats because they really do offer two different perspectives. And honestly, the film usually ends up being the most magical part of the gallery.

When it comes to the film, I’m very hands on with that part of the process.

I do not leave the final look up to a lab. Once everything is developed, I pick it up and scan every roll myself at home in higher resolution than most labs offer, invert the negatives, and handle color and quality control from start to finish.

That extra step is why the film in my galleries looks the way it does.

Nothing beats moments like these. I genuinely love designing these handmade fine art albums with my couples after the wedding and then getting to see their reaction when they open it for the first time.

These are museum level prints with thick archival pages and elevated covers that actually feel substantial in your hands. They are meant to live out on your coffee table, not disappear into a drawer. Every single one is designed from scratch. We go through layout, pacing, which moments deserve full spreads, how many pages make sense for your story, and the exact materials for the cover like leather, suede, or linen.

And honestly, delivering these might be my favorite part of the entire process. Watching people slow down, laugh, point things out, get emotional, try not to get emotional… it never gets old.

Your wedding photos should not just live on your phone. They should live in your home. Picked up by friends. Passed around at dinner. Pulled off the shelf years from now and still hit just as hard.

That is why I care so much about these albums. And yeah… this is absolutely something you are going to want to add to your must have list.

Maternity sessions are so special and intimate. Adding a timeless piece of art serves as the perfect way to preserve these memories. I love approaching these shoots with a fresh eye and making them feel really unique to you.

This one was a special one. Shot entirely on film. I am so excited for this little human and cannot wait to meet him. So much love
