On June 23rd, 2025 a fishing vessel out of Newport, Oregon capsized in port which created a devastating ecological situation.

I am a firm believer that there is beauty in any situation. If you can't find it immediately; look a little harder, it's there.

It took me a while to decide what the content and title of a series for my photography page would be. Our world has a plethora of material to shoot but an original thought or project is difficult to say the least.

I grew up in the Portland metro area and I've always had a concrete spot in my heart for "The Rose City". To say that Portland is the same city it was two decades ago would be a dangerous fallacy. However, thousands of us still call Rip City "home". In order to witness, remember or even acknowledge her beauty one must remember that every rose has its thorn. Her beauty is beyond the drugs, crime, graffiti, broken counsel and social degradation she wears on the surface.

I'm still able to see her beauty and I still proudly call Portland home. She is a city that stood tall while her inhabitants cohesively crumbled. Therefore, I've decided that my series will be one that helps others see her beauty. Maybe just maybe Portlandians can remember who we are and take back our pride we once had for PDX.
