Hello everyone! Sorry for disappearing so much. My life has been very crazy. 4 weeks ago on a random Tuesday my husband and I jokingly decided we should list our home since the market is so crazy hot. Less than 2 weeks later we had moved out of our family home and in with family. We did lots of work to our home in those moving 2 weeks and we were able to list it as soon as we moved out. The market is so crazy right now that we had multiple offers all over list price with lots of other incentives ALL WITHIN 2 DAYS OF LISTING! We are now under contract to sell in a few weeks. Our not so little Griffin turned 3 months old, however he’s in 6-9 and some 12 month clothes 😅 Desmond is now 2.5 years old so I decided to take some photos to document my beautiful boys♥️

Okay time for an update on what has been happening and what is in store for LaPuma Photography!

Valentine’s Day marked TWO whole years of running my photography business! I’ve grown so much in the past 2 years and I can’t wait to see where I will be in the next 2! As most of you know I got my real estate license last year and now that I am officially off of maternity leave I’m pleased to announce that I will be working with the best Real Estate group in the Hampton Roads, Better Homes and Gardens Native American Brokerage 😊. Not only were they awarded #1 in Virginia but they were #9 in the entire United States!

Some of you may be wondering what does that mean for LaPuma Photography but don't worry, LP isn't going anywhere! Okay y'all, I'm going to get serious here for a minute. As you all know I'm always very open about my mental health. Especially since I had horrible postpartum depression and anxiety after Desmond was born. So I want to be open about this also.

Today it happened. Today at the doctors office I had to be quizzed on that dreaded depression/anxiety evaluation. If you don't know what I'm talking about it's about 10 questions ranging from "have you been able to laugh" to "Have you wanted to hurt yourself or your baby". The first time I heard this evaluation Desmond was 3 weeks old and I had already thought about su***de more than once and came extremely close to attempting. When Desmond was born he was perfect. He never cried, he smiled at everyone and was just beautiful. In my mind he deserved an absolutely perfect world and a perfect mother. To me I was not that. In fact I thought I was so far from perfect that he would be better off without me. I often told myself that I wasn't worthy of something so precious. It wasn't until Desmond hit 12 months that I started to realize I am worthy and that I might not be perfect but I'm enough for him ♥️

With all that in mind you can understand why both my husband and I were worried what I would be like after having Griffin. I am so pleased to say it has been the complete opposite. I now know what postpartum is REALLY supposed to feel like. I'm actually happy. I'm not crying everyday or even every week. I'm not thinking scary horrible thoughts. I'm happy. With Desmond I could almost feel the depression immediately after birth, with Griffin it was like taking a breath of fresh air. I look at my baby boy and I know I'm perfect enough for him.

So today I was asked those 10 questions. I answered each one truthfully without feeling shameful and without worrying what my answer will mean because I knew. I knew that I was healthy, happy and that I would pass with flying colors. I know postpartum is different for everyone but I know in my soul that it should be and feel like this.

To all my moms going through postpartum depression and/or anxiety, I've been where you are. I promise it will get better as long as you seek help. It might take you weeks/months to find the right doctor, the right therapist or even the right medication but it can be done. Postpartum Support Virginia helped me in so many ways and I highly recommend them to anyone struggling. I'm always here for any mama that needs reassurance that you are enough and that you are loved ♥️

*On another note I still very much believe postpartum care needs to change!! If my husband hadn't made my appointment at 3 weeks with Desmond I would NOT be here today. Newborns have at least 6 appointments within the first year postpartum, moms only have 1. Our mental and physical health matter too. We need to do better.

Hello everyone!! Sorry I haven't posted much, life with two kiddos definitely takes some time to adjust to. I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day! I know we sure did ❤️ I'm so happy to announce that I am officially off of maternity leave and finally taking sessions!
